    RUN-OFF-EIGHTY MAHIS IN 6 HOURS!

.....OOPS....I MEAN EIGHT.......EIGHT MAHIS IN SIX HOURS OF NASTY WEATHER TROLLING

THIS BANGED UP PIT MONKEY CONFESSES....NOT ALL DAYS ARE PRODUCTIVE....SOME DAYS YOU JUST HAVE TO SCRAP FOR 'EM.....HUNT HARD ...AND NEVER QUIT...SOME THEYS YOU CAN CATCH THEM ON A SHOE HORN...OTHERS ...WELL .....THEY CATCH YOU.... WHERE WAS CAPT YANNIS AND HIS DYNAMITE WHEN I NEEDED HIM?

BUT THEN THERE IS THE DAY THAT YOU CANNOT HOOK SHIT....AND ALL FISH ARE SAFE............AND IF YOU FISH OFTEN ENOUGH......YOU ALL....PROS AND REC GUYS.....YOU ALL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MOANING ABOUT...

NOW A MAHI IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.....I HAVE CAUGHT 50 THOUSAND OF EM ...MAYBE MORE....ONLY 5 OF WHICH WERE OVER 50 POUNDS IN THIRTY YEARS .,...............MY BAITS HAVE CONSISTED OF BALLYHOO ...LURES....JIGS...FLIES...CRABS...SEAHORSES...SAND FLEAS..SQUID ...SMALL SKIRTS ....PORK RINDS.....AND EVEN SALMON EGGS ON A TINY FLY-TROUT HOOK

THEY ARE VICIOUS MARAUDERS WHO WILL EAT ANYTHING IN THEIR PATH ...NO MATTER HOW BIG OR HOW SMALL.....I HAVE CAUGHT A 8 LB MAHI ON A DOUBLE HOO'D FRESH 32 INCH KING......THEY HAVE DEVOURED BIG TROLLING MARLIN LURES ....ONLY TO PISS ME OFF WITH TOURNAMENT TROLLING DOWNTIME

THE TRUTH OF IT ALL....I REALLY DON'T CARE FOR MAHIS....
NOW I DO ENJOY EATING THEM....AND THEY ARE A SAVIOR FOR GOOD ACTION WHEN CHARTER FISHING......HECK WE GENERALLY ATTEMPT TO PULL OUR BAITS AWAY FROM THE "AVERAGE GAFFER" MAHIS WHILE TOURNAMENT FISHING.....IT REQUIRES TOO MUCH DOWNTIME WHEN THEY ATTACK.....

I HAVE CAUGHT MY LIMIT OF 60 SO MANY TIMES THAT I MADATED A NO-MAHI CLEANING POLICY FOR THE REST OF MY CAREER I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED MAHI POISONING TWICE FROM CLEANING THEM AND IT IS NO FUN PICNIC......THEY ARE ALSO VERY SMELLY WHEN THE CARCASS POPS UP NEAR AND AROUND CLEANING STATIONS WHEN DUMBASSES FAIL TO DEEFLATE THEIR EYEBALLS......THIS SHOULD BE DOWN ON ALL FISH THAT ARE TOSSED BACK!!! THEY FLOAT AND STINK FOR GODS SAKE!!! POKE THE DANG EYES OUT PLEASE!!!

WELL.........................YESTERDAY ...WHILE FISHING WITH SEA BISCUIT AND OVERBOARD......WE HAD OUR SHOTS AT THE MAHIS......WE BOXED EIGHT...............I SAID EIGHT...NOT EIGHTY. THE CLIPS POPPED....NO PULLAGE....WE DROPBACK...NO ONE HOME...WE DROPBACK AGAIN...BENTPOLE....THEN BANG...PULLED HOOK.....I RESHARPENED EVERY HOOK INCLUDING THE ONES ALREADY RIGGED....STILL WE MISSED THE MAHI...

I'D SAY WE HAD BENTPOLE ON 15-20 THAT NEVER MET STEEL THE HORROR.

AND ....EXCUSE ME FOR JUST A COUPLE SECONDS WHILE I SHOVEL OUT A DEEPER PIT TO CRAWL IN.............

I ALSO HAD THE CLIP POP ON THE LEFT LONG ....THREE DIFFERENT TIMES.......TO THE DIRTY WHITE BOYS AND MISSED ALL THREE ON THE DROPBACK......

SO. YA HAVE A BAD DAY....YA TAKE IT TO DA BARN..... AND CLEAN UP ...THEN LOCK N LOAD FOR THE NEXT'UN

SUMTHINS GONNA DIE AND DIE BIG THIS WEEKEND IN THE SWANSBORO BILLFISH TOURNY!

I feel your pain on missing fish. I beat myself to a pulp every time it happens.
But look at it this way. Could have been alot worse and come back with nothing or some stinky cudas. At least ya'll came back with edible meat.
Their are good days and bad days out there. Looks like the bad days are getting burned up now instead of this coming weekend.
Hope you guys spank 'em at the Rotary Bluewater event coming up.

Marty is being too tough on himself folks. Yes, the mahis did get the better of us yesterday. We boxed well less than half of those that bent our poles. Yes, the hooks can always be sharper and the seas lighter so that we can actually get to the dang bite w/o falling down in the process.
BUT, the green rascals were not chewin. They'd come looking (one time captain Brian called a school of 100 or more swimming through the spread!) and move on. 5 - 15 lb gaffer wannabes would come on the teasers and follow for a good long time prior to nibbling the teaser horse hoo. One of those days! I did not see any exceptional catches at the waterfront. One wahoo, tuna or slammer per boat was the best decked. No flags were flying.
It did lay down in the afternoon and was a beautiful ride home. Everyone napping, snacking and laughing at being embarrassed by the little devils. Surely Wahoo, Overboard and I will get our shot at exacting revenge soon!

just one of those days i guess. spend enough time in the woods and water and bad days rear their ugly heads sometimes all too often. but the strange thing is, it keeps you going back for more, doesnt it?

    Marty,

I had the exact same day on Sunday. Thankfully, at least it was a beautiful day and we didn't get the crap kicked out of us catching our 8 mahi's. We had our share of bites...pop the clip, throw it in free spool, lock it up, bent pole...then gone!!! Oh well, that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Tough go... But now we know we can say it happens to the Best of Us!

How do you contract this Mahi cleaning poisoning? What does it do to you? I vaguely remember reading about that, I think on here somewhere. I'd have to google, or can somebody provide a link?
