    Roller or Ring Guides

When are roller guides appropriate on a rod. Most of our rods have rollers on them. Some are all rollers others just have a roller tip and a roller guide closest to the reel. Is there an advantage to have all roller guides?

    roller guides create less friction

they are also key if you plan on fishing wind on connections, loop to loops, or wind on swivels.

most guys are choosing rollers for 80# and up.

rollers work well when rolling, if you dont take care of your rods and they stop rolling..its the worst.

    its personal preference.

rings have been getting better, and we do some even up to 100# line.

    there are "cheap" rollers.
    and
    Cheap rings..
    they suck either way
always compare what you are getting.

I actually prefer rollers from 50 class all the way up. The drawback is that they must be taken care of. Also, even if you get all rollers or a combo of roller and then turbo guides, the roller (s) have to be quality. With the braided lines today, they can get pinched between the roller frame and the roller because the line has such a small outside diameter. With WInthrop Tool or Batson, the roller is recessed into the frame and will not allow pinching.
If you are one that will clean and wash your rods after each trip and then maintain them at the beginning and end of the year, then rollers will be fine. If you are not into that, then titanium turbo guides will be better for you.
An advantage of rollers is that the ceramic rings will not take the abuse that inline swivels can dish out, especially under the pressure of a fish.
