    Question Rod sealer

Can someone please help me out? I just received 2 Penn International tuna rods that need to be resealed. Does anyone know what kind of sealant I need to complete this job? They are 5'6" 50-130 class rods if that matters. I need to get them done because just around the corner is wahoo madness season and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks again ya'll,

    Jeremy

Are you looking to reseal the windings or the whole rod? Flex coat makes a good product for both.

    Jeremy,
I assume that you're talking about the clear coat around the guides. To do that you will need a two part epoxy for rod building like Flex coat just as nauti said. It takes about 4 or so hours to set, and 8 to dry, so you will need to do one of two things- either build a make shift rod stand out of wood (build a base and then put two vertical pieces of wood with a V notch in each for the rod to rest) and then turn it manually every few minutes for a couple of hours, or find a really slow turning motor to do that for you. If you can find someone with a grill, you can ask to borrow the rotisserie motor

Then just mix up the two part epoxy (be sure to do it in equal parts or it won't dry properly) and use a small brush to apply it to the blank. Be sure to keep it away from anything like roller guides as they will no longer be roller guides when the flex coat dries.

If you have extra flex coat, you can use it creatively to do things like coat your jigs so the paint doesn't chip from teeth or rocks, etc.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

For cosmetics ?? or are the guides loose?

    Picture might/would help
If your doing this yourself, do yourself a favor and get the drying motor like shoe mentions .... unless you like watching really slow "paint" (in this case epoxy) dry.

The best think you can do is bring them to a local rodbuilder or B&T that has one...

If there is any loose finish it need to be removed..you also need to clean & sand any & all places you plan to refinish ..

As the other post said after you finish it needs to turn for several hours at low RPM 4-16...I spin my rods overnight...
