Rod advice needed

Ok, truth be told, I haven't been into the offshore game very long. Now that I am stationed away from NC for a few years, I have the time to build my gear the best way possible. I just got 2 used tld 50 lrsa's and need to put them on rods. My question is, what type-detachable butt or standard rod? They will be used stand up for your normal weekend warrior table fare and hopefully a billfish someday. I plan on one being used on a handline planer and the other on the center or other flat.

It seems to me that the normal, heavier rods would be fine, but is there something with a removable butt I'm missing? Also, standard guides, rollers, or combo? I plan on spooling braid with a top shot or just straight to windon.

My advice would be something off the shelf, removable butt and something that is moderately priced. Shimano has a good line of rods that will meet your needs.

Check out your local shop and see what they have. Or, check out the store link up top and see those offered on this site.

What's the reason/advantage for the removable butt?

1) Breaks down for easier transport
2) Easier to get a solid bond with the ferrule, than the entire length of a slick type butt
3) You can use the rod for multiple styles - just by changing a straight butt for a bent butt
4) Aluminum butts hold up better to the wear and tear of a rod holder
5) They look good
6) I think it is easier to get the action where you want it when building - rather than worrying about the blank going through the butt...

Aluminum butts do cost more and you need to check the ferrule nut is tight

Not the first time I've seen MARTY step up and support the military and what we do every day.
