ROADKILL////////////
I have been driving a long time and have been known to exceed the posted speed limit on numerous occasions. Well the bride had the wild hair up the butt and said lets head to the beach. Hey I am game so off we went. Well cruising thru Fayettenam the local Policia got me for 54 in a 35 and for not signing my damn registration which I got the day before.
I called my attorney and he said no problem so I was good. Well today I got home and had 13 letters from attorneys wanting to represent me. DAMN am I dead on the side of the road??????? It made me feel like roadkill. I will probably get just as meany letters tomorrow. Glad I have already secured an improper equipment with a minimal fine.

Certainly makes you wonder who is making all the money... $400 to the lawyer for Improper Equipment - Split that with da Judge
What a great scam

Wifey with the lead foot (I say that laughing) got one in Havelock for 68 in a 55. 4 Days later, there was a stack and I mean a stack of letters from every attorney in Havelock. Each was trying to state the sense of urgency of having good and solid representation in court.
$30 fine and $120 in court costs!!! Robbery. Nothing worse than a legalized shake down!!
I wanted to pay with $150 in pennies, out of the wrappers, Just a big friggin box of pennies complete with about 5 pounds of those shipping peanuts that go everywhere when you open the box, but I think that must have been done before as they only accept certified checks now.

Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
I agree, it's nothing short of a legalized shakedown. Seat belt tickets and their court costs are a stiff kick in the nuts, unbelievable.

Havelock, also...
I got a 54 in a 40 ticket, at the last traffic light on 70 East leaving Havelock--I could see the 55 sign in front of me!
I received 18 solicitations from lawyers in Havelock and New Bern, all in less than a week. My insurance would have doubled for 3 years, so I hired a lawyer in New Bern. It cost me a total of $310 for an improper equipment plea.
Scam? It does smell a little fishy. In reality, it's just a microcosm of government corruption that exists at every level...and a society that allows it.
Regarding speeding, a NC State Trooper once told me: "I'll give you 9, just don't ask for 10."

The good news is that most eastern counties in NC offer an improper equipment plea.... The bad thing is that once you figure in the lawyer's fees, it will save you about $20.00 over the insurance hike... Total Scam...
