    RIGGING A GUACOMOLE-BALLYHOO (VID)

THIS IS CALLED THE GUATAMALA RIG BALLYHOO............THIS STYLE OF RIGGING WAS STARTED IN GUATAMALA ON AN AMERICAN CHARTER BOAT........IT IS A VERY SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO SWIM A BALLYHOO...........IT IS A SPLIT BILL WITHOUT SPLITTING THE BILL!!

HOW GOOD IS IT? THE "RUN-OFF" WON THE BARTA BOYS AND GIRLS BILLFISH TOURNAMENT SWIMMING 6 OF THESE LAST YEAR..............NOW THAT AIN'T BAD!

I HOPE YOU DO ENJOY AND LEARN ...AND BELIEVE IN IT! ......

    When to guacamole?

    Marty,
thanks for the video. Quality instruction as always.
A couple of questions, if you please:
When is this style swimming ballyhoo best used? Billfishing only?
Will this rig work with a witch, skirt or lure or strictly naked?
Thanks in advance for the answers.

great video marty. . .have not tried them yet, always have used the split bill but i like the ease of re-setting the lines with them.

Do you ever use J-hooks with them??? what sizes can you use and keep them swimming right?? A little food for my thought

    MY ANSWERS BACK TO ALL

NO PLASTIQUE OR WITCH HERE GUYS.........ALL NAKED

I CATCH MAHIS,TUNA, WHITES , AND SAILS ON THIS RIG..............................WE ARE YET TO CATCH A WAHOO, ALTHOUGH THEY EAT THE THING, WE HAVEN'T LANDED ONE YET

I PULL THE CIRCLE HOOK FOR BILLFISH CONSERVATION PRACTICE.................NO PROBLEM HOOKING THE TUNAS WITH IT

IF THE ENTIRE CENTRAL AMERICAN FLEET , INCLUDING MEXICO ,ARE USING CIRCLES...............THEN THAT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME FOR THEY HAVE IT ALL "DOWN PAT",.... WOULDN'T YOU SAY?

ON ANOTHER NOTE, I'M CERTAIN ALL TOURNYS WILL BE GOING TO CIRCLE HOOKS SOON..................IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME IF THIS HAPPENS IN 2006

Hey Box, thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Looks like a great time saver to get fresh/new bait changed out in a hurry when the bite turns on! Does the 'hoo swim better because there isn't a hook in him? What knot do you recommend for connecting the leader and hook using this rig?
    Thanks again,
    Will

ok, well here is another tip. We do this when sharking and both using j-hooks and circle hooks, tie a red ribbon around the rods that you are using the circle hook on to remind yourself NOT to set the hook. The last thing you want to do is rip that hook out while trying to set a circle.

As always great stuff Marty. One of the great things about Guac.
is you can fit a lot of hoos in a bait box and zero tangled leaders.

Not only that you can quickly shut down from the troll to the chunk
without rerigging or pulling out different rods. Just pull the hoo off
the hook and put a chunk bait on it and feed it out.Cool huh?
