THE MOREHEAD WATERFRONT USED TO BE FUN AND ALIVE WITH EXCITEMENT WITH ALL THE BAIT RIGGING CREWS WHEN J-HOOKS WERE ALLOWED....BUT NOW.....NOW THAT ART IS DYING OFF

MY LAYDAY #2 TODAY FOUND ME MOWING THE GRASS...SWEEPING THE GARAGE....DID A COUPLE LOADS OF LAUNDRY...AND TOOK AN AFTERNOON NAP

THANKS FOR NOTHING NMFS FOR TAKING AWAY THE ART OF BAIT RIGGING FROM ME IN NC BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENTS

I know what you mean as much as I used to hate the 3 or 4 hours of prep work sewing macks and rigging hoos DAMN I miss them days
The feeling you got when you finally shut the lid on the bait box stuffed with your best soldiers just Knowing most would not survive the days battle just DAMN
Dont get me wrong the bite on a big plunger in the corner can be awesome but it aint quite the same
Reverend Box get some sleep brother you got a big ***** to UNBAPTIZE tomarrow

I dont think the art of rigging the big bait is lost at all. I think it has actually been enhanced, not everybody can get a mackerel to swim with a circle hook and thats the way it should be. a person should have to work and experiment and learn what works and what doesnt work when it come to bait rigging.

I think it is harder to get a big bait to look good with a circle hook is difficult, only about 1/2 of mine swim how i want them to because i haven't mastered that art just yet, but in time it will come.

but just because a person does not have the ability or knowledge to do so, doesn't mean the art is lost. maybe some are lazy or stubborn and dont want to learn new tactics and techniques or put forth the effort to perfect them.

Or maybe due to the fishing being so slow at this years big rock, people are choosing to cover more water with plugs rather then slow down and bait fish.

I dont think anybody should blame the government or NMFS and the circle hook rule for the loss of a so called art.

I would have taken those laydays over what we went thru, planned on fishing four straight, but that got changed somewhere, somehow. Thought we had everything straightened out on an overheating problem after working all day. Got A call around 7:00 pm, my Mother in Law passed away in Fla. The Capt. and crew would not fish without me, said we came as A team and we were leaving as A team. Thanks guys for getting me home to my wife, we are off to Fla. first thing in the morning. Good Luck everyone, hopefully we will be back next year. jaws

I've seen quite a few natural baits being rigged over at the MHC Yacht Basin. The Uno Mas has a crew from way south of the border and they have some very interesting naturals rigged on circles, 2 unlike anything locally rigged. I'm learning some different stuff every trip down the docks.

If it is any consolation, there will be plenty of natural baits being rigged in just a few weeks for the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament
