I wish I was reporting some Hoos being killed but Mother Nature has decided to blow like heck. So I've had to resort to Speck fishing, hiding behind Shackleford and anywhere else I can get outta the wind. With the pending gale this weekend I hit the road to MHC to get some slime on the hands. Stiff north wind greeted me at the ramp but the ride down the beach was beautiful. Zero boats on the spot, great!!! Put the Foul Hook'd into the wind and dropped anchor.
Plenty of 2-3lb. blues all around, tide was still coming in and the bite was slow to start. High tide things started gettin going, couple under-slot reds, then some of the biggest pinfish I've ever seen on 3/8oz lead heads. Then the tud of a good fish nails the bait, short fight and a nice 4lb. speck in the net. 3 more cast with 3 more fat specks. The bite slowed when the tide stopped but quickly restarted as it started to move again.
Landed 6 more specks of 4-5.5lb range and a couple good blues. Couple more boats braved the wind and anchored up and started picking away too. Hated to leave but the greys seemed to be non-existent, only 1 barely legal that got throwed back.
Plenty of Kings and blues around the inlet, and the offshore waters are pretty muddy inshore of 210/240 Rock according to boats that got offshore today and alot of current.
