live shrimp rigged weightless on a circle hook. when you see the school, cast in front. fish on. Use light tackle, but fish size appropriate. I prefer braid with about a 6 foot leader of fluorocarbon
I'm not much of an artificial guy, but have had success with the "redfish magic" beetle-spin style baits. I've noticed over the years that they prefer a rootbeer/bronze colored bait, especially if it has a chartreusse tail. I've also noticed that a copper colored blade produces a lot better than a silver blade... on the redfish magic and johnson spoons.
But, if I HAD to catch a pup, I'd use cut mullet or crab. I fish a 4/0 hook with an egg sinker above a 18" leader. I fish around a lot of oyster bars, and use 40 lb mono leader... for abrasion resistance. I've also switch back to fireline from power pro because it stands up to the oyster shells a lot better.
