WITH ONLY MY DESKTOP OPEN....MY RAM METER SHOWS 43%
IS THIS GOOD? BAD? NORMAL?
CAN IT BE IMPROVED?
It sounds okay. For regular surfing the web, checking email, and other small programs you don't need a ton of ram. But when you are creating videos and using large programs such as photoshop, illustrator, and other adobe products you need alot of ram so that your computer will run smoothly. If you ever see that ram meter jump above 75 or 80% then you need to add more ram. Personally I use 2 gigs of ram because I run very large programs such as adobe photoshop, illustrator, and sony vegas.
Not sure I never saw a RAM meter. It does seem that your desk top is using a lot of RAM. Do you have a lot of programs running in the background? Do programs run slow? Lastly how much RAM do you have and what speed is your processor?
Sorry to answer your question with more questions.
How much RAM is installed?
There will be a bunch of other stuff running in the background - that you don't see...
to find out what else is running - CTRL-ALT-DEL, Select Task Manager, then Select the Processes Tab...
Thanks BOX. I found the RAM Meter and installed it. Right now with Fire Fox open along with Outlook and God knows what else running in the background I'm at 66%.
Thanks again.
Box: Are you running Vista Premium, Vista Basic, or still on Windows 98?
I went from 2GB to 4GB on my laptop running Vista Basic and it made a HUGE difference. Cost about $25.
Memory is a very cheap way to upgrade your computer.
