220s to 74e is good now. 220 is now 4 lane all the way down and bypasses a lot of the little towns. There is only 1 stretch of 74 that is 2 lane.

I go a back way that will be almost no traffic. Problem is- I can't tell you how to go and I don't know many of the road names I just know where to turn. I don't think google earth can find some of the roads I take.

You could take 421 to Sanford and pick up 87 and that will carry you to Southport. It is 4 lane all the way past Elizabethtown. By the time you get to Fayetteville the traffic should not be as bad. total trip time about 3hrs 20 min

Robja, I hadnt looked at that route. That sounds like it is alot quicker.

Hotrod, from what I have heard, the 220 rte is supposed to be the best to dodge most of the traffic.

Robja's route seems the quickest, has anyone else take this way?
