First off you should always have a hook file handy for sharpening . But if your like me, I don't have a holdzit file case ......yet. So here is what I do when I need to touch up a hook quickly during a bite or when I do not have my file with me. (on someone else's boat, staying at someone else's house where you may not want to bring a ton of stuff with you)
Any med to fine sandpaper 60-100 grit will put a nice edge back on a hook that has been sharpened properly. It needs to be an aluminum oxide paper, silicon oxide ,emery cloth or something comparable. It is not a substitute for a hook file but works very nicely to touch that needle sharp point back up.
Take the paper and fold it up to make a long flat file type shape and proceed just like you would with a file. You will have to re-fold the paper for each hook. Don't forget to color that new edge with a marker where the DT finish is now gone.
I tried this method this past week and it worked like a champ!
