    Questions about GBFT fishing

    A few questions...

Do most of the "good boats/captains" book up well in advance of the season?

If a GBFT is caught on a charter, who keeps the fish?

What is the price range for a typical GBFT charter? Do any captains offer discounts for multiple days charter?

I guess it is obvious, but a friend and I are considering a GBFT trip in the future. I would like the trip to take place on/off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Any advice on chartering for GBFT will be very much appreciated.

ummmmm if I were wanting to go for GBFT, there is only one boat I would choose, "the black boat" "the beast" The Run Off

Mostly now days the boat will keep the fish and sell it at the market, but that is stuff you will need to verify with the captain because you will get a thousand answers. So just call Capt Brain and talk to him. In all honesty you will not want to keep the fish unless you can eat 400lbs of sushi in a cpl of days. Trust me it is a time you will NEVER forget without taking fish home!

I would second going with Brian and marty on the black boat- Shane is also a good choice. I fish next to them all winter long and those boys are always on the meat!!!

As far as keeping the fish...... what are ya gonna do with 300+ lbs. of greasy bluefin meat ?

I also fish the GBFT season down there, and whenever I notice the black boat nearby, I gain a bit more confidence that I have picked a good area. There are a bunch of top notch Captains down there fishing at that time of the year, but, if you look at the numbers, The Run Off is always at or near the top.

Generally this is how it works, but it varies from boat to boat for sure. Depends on the boat and the season, but they generally don't start booking until the bite starts. Generally you pay for fuel and a smaller fee, but if you catch one the boat keeps it to sell and you get the trip free. Thats how the guys I know do it, but of course everyone is different.

I would book a trip with the Canyon Runner, for the chunking season up North. Then see about there free trips they offer for the BFT season when booking a trip with them now......

Sounds perfect to me. I also read a similar description somewhere else.

I should have stated earlier that if we come to Morehead City, and they have room, and will take us, the first choice is undoubtledly The Runoff. I am just trying to get a feel for the action with this thread.

Thanks for every one of the responses.
