Crab mustard is good
Thought I would give an update on the Cone verses Monel debate.....
My previous trip before this thread was started, I had problem with Ballyhoo washing out and getting ripped up....granted it was rough and my guys weren't checking as much as they should have...but be that as it may, I was looking for a reason to get rid of the cones, which I've used for a very long time.....
So, last two trips I used strictly Monel, and got rid of the cones....I pre-rigged a dozen in the backyard both times...
first trip produced two Blue Fin Tuna in the 120 plus pound range.....we left after those two as there were only two of us and we didn't wanna do that again...getting old...
2nd trip produced 1 YFT in the box, 4 Tuna bites and several nice Gaffers....
both trips the baits were checked every 30 minutes and were in fantastic shape....these were brand new baitmasters but the shape of the Bhoo while fishing on these trips was far and above the previous trips....
So...I'm convinced on the Monel and have gotten rid of my cones......
Thanks for all the constructive information....Bob

Sit down Shut up And fish
Bob,
I used to use rubberbands only until I started fishing with Trax. I feel the rubberbands DO work well and my Bud Chad showed me that method and like he says, you don't have to split atoms but when you get out there and have to get busy, I want to use the best bait presentation I can. I prefer wire...and I like a longer piece to start out with and will trim it back as needed. But the bottom line is wire done right is the best way...and once you do it a bunch of times, you'll be able to shoot them back out pretty damn fast...
Glad to see this method is working for you...

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I rig a better looking bait with monel, and they do seem to hold together longer. It takes longer, but I'm more happy with my baits. I do carry rubber bands if the bite just gets crazy and I need to get them out really fast.
