Question Question About Single Hook Lure Rigs

I have always rigged my lures with double hook rigs, but I have heard from a lot of professional mates that they prefer single hook rigs for two reasons. One, it is safer, and two, they think that it works just as well. I know that you can stiff rig it with cable, but I have heard that rigging it with mono works just as well. I just don't know how to do this. Any thoughts and pictures of rigs would be greatly appreciated. I want to rig some with just mono.

On my laptop without a camera at the moment. Yes single. ANother reeason is you are not "sharing" pressure on two points to drive them in. All going to one for that energy. All mine get mono rigging all the way.
Leader goes through ure then two crimps....
Then through the hook eye (with chafing gear) (thimble or spring)...
Then back through hook end crimp....
Then wrap tag ened and main leader AROUND EACH OTHER...
Then tag goes back in through second crimp...
Measure the length of that double so hook will rest at back of skirt...
Mash your crimps and trim the tag...
I then wrap from mid hook to just past the head end crimp with electrical tape to stiffen...

Thank you Deep C. That sounds just like what I am looking for. Do you use 500lb mono for the leader material?

I make single hook rig w/ cable, like the Melton crew, for all my Marlin lures...I get better lure action and mouth hookups on my Marlin lures with singles as opposed to doubles...I tend to hook more Marlin outside the mouth w/ doubles.

I've been sold on the new Hays hooks...Them hooks are no joke...Went 2 for 2 (largest 700lb) on the Hays hooks this past tourney...And those hooks were deep in the Marlin's upper jaw...Had a hard time getting them out.

    Went 0 for 2 with 7691s.

Hey Anthony, good info..here's a look at them

Hays hooks right here guys, we are single stiff rigging them form 7/0-14/0
The 14/0 is mean in a 15' plus bait for the big boys like the Bomboy Magilla Gorilla

    Johnny,

What hook rigs and styles are most popular amongst your Kona clientele? Are many of them still using the traditional mustad shapes or has there been a big shift to Jobus/Hays? Single or two hooks? Favourite hook sizes?

I thought it was kinda funny that you asked for opinions on single or two hook rigs... when the best lure fishermen in the world walk through the doors of your Kona store every day ...
