Well boys and girls, here goes another one.
I got married about a year and a half ago in St.John in the virgin islands and we planned a bachelor party fishing trip with a few of the boys that could make it down. My buddy who came to the wedding and did the wedding video put together an incredible video of the whole week. I took the footage from the fishing trip and condensed it into a quick 4 minute vid and added music to it.
The "quarter story" goes like this
We were on two boats, a 30 Dorado and a 42 Luhrs express 6 guys on each boat and we had a little bachelor party tournament going on... a little TWT so to speakTrips were from 1pm - 6pm roughly and we went out with high hopes and about 3 bottles of RUM
...it was a bachelor party ya know...
Most of the afternoon consisted of small schoolie YFT and a small Blackfin Tuna as well. Even picked up a "bait" sized mahi.
Got an inside out knock down by a PIG blue marlin that had to be every bit of 450-500lbs![]()
She hit the port short and then flipped and smashed the living CRAP out of the starboard short and we thought we were on as line ripped off the 50W....Alas she dissapeared and was not seen
Oh well, the moonphase was wrong and we were very happy to have seen one that big and lightning fast

About 5pm there were storms all around us and things were a bit slow.....then we found some birds working and the occasional tuna go airborne, so we sat on it and started throwing live bait one or two at a time.
I looked over at John the mate and said hey john "lucky quarter and threw a quarter overboard off the stern and laughed a bit". He responded right on and we waited intently as things certainly started to look good. BANG, starboard bait gets smashed and my best man Willard "previous biggest saltwater fish was a 20pound King Mackarel" is on and getting his ass handed to him![]()
Not 2-3 minutes later WHAMMMO!!!! another bait is demolished and the 50 Tiagra is screeming for the DROP!!! Now it is my Uncle Steve's shot at his FIRST EVER YFT.....Yahoooooo
I am loving every second of this and hoping that the sharks don't get to them before John sinks the steel.....
First one comes to gaff and Willard is the proud fighter of a 45lb class YFT!!!
STOKED
Now here's the crazy part, John realizing the other fish being on and the likelyhood of another getting on proceeds to gut the first YFT.................................................................................................................OUT OF HIS BELLY POPS A FRESH SILVER QUARTER![]()

I sware on my life......it was hilarious....full grown men screaming like 12 year olds and cussing like we never got too before.....full classic..
I get that a YFT might pop a quarter on it's way down due to it being shiny and silver, but to catch the same one!!!!! SWEET
Second one comes aboard after a solid 20 minute fight and my uncle Steve is the master of a very nice fat 50lb class YFT!!!!
Next up is my buddy Matt who is on and immediately looks at me and says....DUDE,, this is a nice fish and this week has been insane, so you kill it![]()
O.K. I said and begin the DEATH battle.....seriously the hardest fighting YFT I think I ever fought....don't know what it was, but them North Drop fish really put a bruisin' to ya....1/2 hour later she comes to gaff in the dark with lighting storms all around and I feel like a GLADIATOR!!!!
All that adrenaline on the boat mixed with the static electricity in the air is like nothing I have ever felt before.....it was INSANE.....the RUM wasn't hurting matters either![]()
Anyway, my fish went 88lbs!!! It was a stud and of course I ate a fresh piece of it at the Lime Inn the next night![]()
What a great trip and can't wait to fish there again....I want one of those HUGE blue's....Next time I have to time the moon phase right. Incidentally the trip was at the end of June, so right at the beggining of the Blue Marlin season....
We fished on Mixed bag and Rob the captain and John the mate were awesome and made the trip a blast, once realizing we knew how to fish let us gaff fish, fly line baits, etc etc...CLASS ACT CAPT AND CREW...
Not too mention trip was from 1pm-6pm and we left the grounds at 7:20pm in the darkThey wanted us to score and we did

Look em up, and St.John is beautiful.
Anybody has any questions about that area let me know, I have been several times.
Enjoy the video, there is about 30 seconds of cussing etc. so might watch it before letting the littles ones check it out...
Also, it was really cool to have about 30 friends and family members on the dock at the Westin St.John when we returned to see us unload the catch///
Yes, we Won as the other boat lost most of the bigger models to sharks and blew a turbo on the way in![]()
