Pushing my luck - Seawitch video

Folks with all the great advice ya'll gave me with the squid chain, I thought I would try to tie seawitch and have ya'll critique that as well. I do not know what weight the head is, I think it is about a 1/2 oz. I found the head in the bottom of a container a buddy gave me. I don't show it in the video, but I did trim the ends so they are all the same length. Here's the vid.

Nice video man...your getting the hang of it. Just always make sure your getting the knots really tight towards the top of the head so the hair parts nicely. I work my knots from the top of the head down. But nice job...its lookin good!

Sorry brandon558 - I am new on here and didn't mean to offend anyone. I thought this forum was more of a joke type forum. most of the videos are kinda korny but still somewhat entertaining. This one about the seawitches was informative.

Great video. Only advice I have for you on it is maybe use a little bit less hair but that may just be a personal preference of mine.

THOSE LOOK GREAT AND WILL WORK, BUT TOO I WOULD GO WITH LESS HAIR. I ALSO PREFER TO TIE ONE SIDE AT A TIME SO THE HAIR SPREADS A LITTLE MORE EVEN. I USE FLY TYING WAXED NYLON TO MATCH THE COLORS OF THE HAIR/HEADS. THE WAY YOU ARE DOING IT WILL WORK GREAT AND IS A LITTLE LESS TIME CONSUMING. I PUT HARD HEAD ON ALL MY TYING B/C I USE MUCH THINNER WAXED NYLON. HERE ARE A COUPLE OTHER PICS. BUT GOOD JOB. BTW, THE CIRCLE HOOK WAS JUST THE ONLY THING WITH A LEADER THAT I HAD FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES.

THIS ONE YOU CAN ADD HAIR TO TOO. I HAVE DONE THEM BOTH WAYS

    Byrd -

Thanks for the vid. I personally prefer a bit less hair - like about 1/2 of what you were using. The surgeon's knot is a great way to start, but then once I get the hair straight and in place, I use a half hitch - pulled very tight
and repeat a couple more times. I think you'll find you don't really need the glue.

IMHO the glue only does 2 things - wicks up the hair so it doesn't spread fully, and makes it a P.I.T.A. to remove to retie the next time.

I'll also start with a bit more rigging floss, so I don't have to monkey with the tag ends so much - then just cut it close when done.

What is so down right professional about this thread is Byrd enthusiastically asking for critisism. These boards tend to be all too full of the thinnest skinned "men" any of us have ever seen when it come to constructive critisism. Pretty work there Byrd--- what better way to learn?

There is no right or wrong way to tie a witch (unless you do it contrary to my way )-- so what ever style you develop that works best for you is the best way to tie a witch.

A couple of suggestions to try:
I bet you can get your wraps even tighter if you grab the whole mess in one hand and wrap with the other (twist a loop to obtain a half hitch and go over the head). Keep the floss under one foot to keep good tension.

Don't forget to line up the eyes and the color seems--- fish don't give a shit, but it looks better to us humans.

Give it all a trim with the sissors when done to make everything nice and even.

Thick or thin is up to you--- I like the hair on the thin side personally as I feel a witch should add to the appeal of a ballyhoo--- not cover it up.
