Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted a report. After reading and drooling over Lee's reports, I thought I'd report on our fishing during the 2nd Annual Redfish Tournament in Va. Beach.
The Captain's meeting on Friday night was followed by a pretty nasty squawl, so after the storm rolled through, Dale and I hit the inlet around 9 with a cooler full of iced mullet. We fished up the Western Branch in the spot we'd found a couple weeks ago. I've been making "visits" every 3-4 days to make sure the fish were still there. The last of the incoming was the best. We boated 10 fish, 5 that were over the 26" max, and one that was kept - 24.5, the best legal fish of the night. Again, this place held a lot of "overs"; although fun to catch, they weren't what we were looking for.
We headed in around 1:45 for a nap, and were back on the water @ 6AM. When we pulled into the creek, there was a cooler floating so we motored over to pick it up. On the way there, we ran through a big knot of mullet, and thought the cooler must have been a "sign"... LOL. Well, we dropped the anchor and flat out SLAPPED'EM around. For the next 3 hours we were laughing, high fiving, cussing at 26.1" fish while we looked for something over 25 inches with LOTS OF SPOTS. When the dust settled, we had landed over 50 Pups between 20 and 30 inches, with our two tournament fish measuring 25.5 and 25.75... the "spotty" fish only had 7... still, we thought we were looking pretty good.
At the weigh in we ended up in 2nd in the combined weight of 2 fish... by one damned ounce! (Oh well, next time we'll have more ice, and maybe a dip net... probably a good idea when tournament fishing, huh?) We also placed 2nd in the big fish calcutta with a 6 lb. 8 oz. fish. On a side note, the "fish with the most spots" calcutta was won by a 20" Pup that had 22 SPOTS!

Gotta love it when a plan comes together. Great job on your second place win. Very well done and nice to know that I had lit a little fire under you...
Lee - yeah man, you have. Tomorrow morning is a "stalking" trip... it just looks like a heck'uva lot of fun in your reports. I'm off to get some "Dawgs" now.
You mean to tell me you didn't win! The horror! Great job on the pups bro. I know you were loving life. Thanks for posting up the report. You ready for the Spot, Trout, and whatever else we gotta catch Saturday?
