Guys I probably can't make a meeting but people need to show up IN FORCE at the one in New Bern and make you feelings known. These limits are being dreamed up with NO science to support them, and NO stock assessments. If you think they can't go through just look at ARS and grouper!

Thanks for the info! I stopped going to these meetings many years ago. I felt the need to go "postal" way too often. Looks like I'd better get back in the groove. We had best not just show up in New Bern, the meetings cover a wide area. With the membership here on SFC there ought to be a full house at all of them. The charter guy's need to show up with the number's of their business's to show the "economic impact". The only thing they understand is number's, because they know nothing about fish

please come to a meeting in your area,if these rules come in effect not only will this be the death of charter boats, but offshore fishing as we know it,i know i dont post here very often (this will change now that some of the drama is gone ),but please help us out in this battle,the charter busness has faced the perfect storm the last few years,econ,fuel prices ,cca,and unlimited entry.for more info on what we are against please visit nc waterman united web site for more information

2 wahoo PER VESSEL? They obviously haven't been offshore ever in their collective lives. Oh yeah, the wahoo are few and far between out there.

I know charter boats have to fill out monthly fish reports. If you ask around, how many recreational fisherman have actually had their catch recorded. Where are all the recreational catch numbers coming from. Ask any rec. fishing friends if anyone has ever checked or recorded their numbers, it will prob. take a while to find one. I dare say that other than tournaments, I have never (i did say never) seen anyoneone collecting data at the fish cleaning table. How about you.

Please spread the word about this very important public hearing concerning changes to size and bag limits for dolphin and wahoo for the South Atlantic.

The public hearing will be in New Bern January 24th from 3pm to 7pm.

The South Atlantic Council will hold a series of public hearings and scoping meetings regarding fisheries management measure proposed for several federally managed species, including those within the snapper grouper management complex, dolphin (fish), wahoo, golden crab and octocorals within the South Atlantic region.
These measures will impact both commercial and recreational fishermen.

Motions from the South Atlantic Council’s December Meeting concerning ACL’s Action 21: Management Measures for Dolphin MOTION #50: SET A 20” MINIMUM SIZE LIMIT FOR DOLPHIN FROM FLORIDA

THROUGH NEW ENGLAND COUNCIL’S AREA.

Action 26: Management Measures for Wahoo

MOTION #65: ESTABLISH A RECREATIONAL BOAT LIMIT OF 2 WAHOO PER

BOAT/VESSEL PER DAY.

MOTION #66: SELECT THE ABOVE NEW ALTERNATIVE AS OUR PREFERRED


Public Hearings will be held on three separate amendments:

Comprehensive Annual Catch Limit Amendment to establish Annual Catch Limits and Accountability Measures for species not currently listed as undergoing overfishing as required by the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Annual Catch Limits (pounds or number of fish) will be set for species in the snapper grouper management complex as well as dolphin, wahoo, and golden crab.

Snapper Grouper Regulatory Amendment 9 includes commercial trip limit options for greater amberjack, vermilion snapper, black sea bass, and gag grouper.

Comprehensive Ecosystem-Based Amendment 2 includes actions relative to the management of octocorals and non-regulatory actions that update existing Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) information. Also, modifications to the management of Special Management Zones in South Carolina , sea turtle release gear requirements for the commercial snapper grouper fishery, designation of new EFH areas and EFH-Habitat Areas of Particular Concern are being considered.



Schedule: Informal presentations will be given and public comment will be accepted any time between the hours of 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM at each meeting location.
