    Pretty but tastier!

    Sunday as we drifted through a flock of triggers suddenly it shifted to these jumbo porgies...
    Are these Scup or Joltheads? All were over 20", it was the first time we came across a school of these guys!
    Tasted real good whole in the oven...

    White Bone Porgy

    Jaques,

    We caught some of them last fall i looked them up in my fish id book and it called them whitebone porgy.

    those are some nice size ones therer
    whend your fishing triggers are you drifting or anchored?

    Zack, Those whitebone have some pretty distinctive spots, these where pretty uniform silver, like the Saucereye porgy.
    We were on the drift in a little over 200Ft. At that depth we don't often anchor but closer for the triggers we definetly would.

    Looks like a scup/porgy. I just read that they can get up to 20 lbs. Had no idea they got that big.

    They look alot like what we call Scup up here in Mass. The smaller ones make incredible striper bait and I have heard they make good live bait for White Marlin also.
