Getting a boat together for a trip is a load of work as most of us know, but when your getting one together of a 12 day trip with charters up to near the day of departure with people wanting it change your schedule to make theirs work better makes it near impossible and this was the case this week for me. Spinning around like someone had a rope wrapped around me like a top while trying to make sure that everything was in place and together only to have Mother Nature and the weather forecasters throw another kink into and making me move the trip a day forward only to find that they (weather people) and myself got it wrong...rush, rush, rush...but as I fire up the engines and pull her out of the slip, all the rush and bad mojo seems to roll out of the back of the boat and my mind clears the cobwebs out of my head and by the time we break the inlet...with the sun coming up, all is well with the world.
Coming out of Masonboro Inlet, the GPS is set for the 14 buoy off of Cape lookout and I settle in for the 3 hour ride to there where I change the heading for the next 2 & 1/2 hour ride to the 900 line where the plan is to put the lines in and pull plugs to the Rock pile and finish the run the Hatterasand Oden's dock where we will be for the next 10 or so days, fun fishing with the kids and a few good friends. Not finding any good water for the bills, we decide to move the shallows, 190', and put out a meat spread. Ten minuets later, first Dolphin in the box followed by a nice 35 pound Wahoo (tonight's dinner) and next pass, another nice Dolphin. By now its time to head to the hill and fuel up at Oden's put her in the slip and clean her up for the night.
It all ways amazes me how you can go somewhere out of your home and see people that you have not seen for a time. As we were fueling people start coming by the boat to say high and shoot the breeze while we do our thing, its always great to see people that I have not see in a while. Once the boat was finished and put away for the night we went to the restaurant over Oden's for a cocktail and to watch the sun set, yep, I'm on vacation so to speak, and as I'm sitting there, here comes our very own Capt. Jay Kavanagh and his very lovely sweet wife who were out for the very first time since the birth of their child. It was so great to see them and meet Jay for the first time, after a couple of phone call and exchanging conversation with Jay on different threads.
I'm looking forward to fishing around the charter fleet here over the next few days and expecting to have some great stories with you all, worst thing so far is that I left my camera cord for down loading pictures so that will have to come at the end of the trip...such is life and if that is the worst thing, all is good...will keep you all uppdated...
enjoy Your time Capt Lee....and we look forward to your vacation pics and details..as you have presented your other fine posts with pics......memorable
Good luck with your vacation Capt. Lee. If you get the chance to run by the Light tower on Diamond Shoals you should throw some jigs and top water plugs to the Jacks that hang there. We want some video clips as well.
Taking a vacation from fishing 12 straight by going fishing 10 straight! You are my kind of man captain Lee. Fair seas, good catching and great times.
See you back in Wilmington in July, just in time for the inshore sails.
