Was fishing out of Oregon Inlet on 9/12 and while trolling got tangled with a Portugeuse MOW. In the process of clearing lines got a tentacle on my finger. Burned like acid, extremely painful. Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else. Could not find anything that would stop the burning. In fact it did not stop hurting until the next day. Does anyone know a cure for this while out to sea? thanks.

What BTH said, works like a charm and the stinging goes away. Do NOT wipe the tentacle off...pour water over it then vinegar over it. I think white is the better of the 2 but no proof if it is...

I've been stung and they gave me vinegar. Hurt for a couple of hours though and I had to keep moving... maybe they wiped the tentacle off first.. I dunno... I was a kid and it was a horrible experience...

Got covered by one as a kid it was not pretty as I stayed purple for over 10 days.
HEAT is the best cure to most poisons... Catfish, wasp, stingray etc... Wether it's hot water, a hair dryer or even fire it's the quickest way to stop the pain. Biggest problem is getting acces to heat most times and you run out of pee pretty quickly!!!... MM |
