    Planner Rod ?

I posted awhile back on some other options if a Tiagra 80 is out of the question (near term).

Box what do you spool your 80 with braid or mono and test. I think Frank (Sea Power) said he uses 9/0's I think that is where I'll have to go near term, same question recommendations on line type (braid / mono) and lb.

Any pros and cons would be great also.

    Thanks
    Jeff

I have my inline setup spooler with 130 JB hollowcore. I believe that it cuts threw the water better, allowing the planer to run deeper. Im sure there are expert opinions on this that use the system everyday, but this is just my way and knowledge of doing it. Looking forward to some more input.

    Ponce,
If you are considering using #16's or 24's, you may want to consider 200lb solid spectra.

Ponce, I use the PowerPro 250(I think that is the test, largest that PowerPro makes). It was the same braid I use on my DownRigger's. I have gone to 12/0 reels now. The 9/0 worked with up to #12 Old Salty planer's. Didn't ever try anything larger, I think it would be too much on the reel, maybe not. It was just my "poor man's sniper". But it worked.Frank

don't look just at Avet. There are other manufacturer's out there who make reels just as good or better for less. I'm a fan of Avet's, quackkilla has an Avet 80W on his planer rod and it is sick nasty

How about using that marked braid, like the Daiwa PE line?

This should give you a pretty good idea of how deep your setting things. I think they make it to 150lb test..

    Any opinions on this stuff?

Just my two cents...i have only one season under my belt but to me the Tiagra 80wlrs is the only planer reel that makes sense to own period.
I have it spooled with 80lb clear Ande(600yrds) then 200 yards of 130lb white JB braid. I've never seen the mono.
    We've caught 100lb bft's, mako's(on the troll) mahi's, yft's and plenty of wahoo's.

The tiagra 80 is a beast. We pull 16's, 24's and occassionally the 32 planers. it will hold any of them.

Now if your thinking giants don't waste your time. 130 Tiagra is the only game in town.

My penn 80's I only use for blue Marlin or breakaway's for bft's. The Penns just don't have enough drag to hold those 24 planers.

    Just my two cents.

Dont wast your time or money on this stuff. It's not all it's cracked up to be. The all tackle guys will tell you same thing. White JB 130lb braid. Trust me you won't be disappointed.
