    PLANNER QUESTIONS

Let me start out by telling you I use a 621 Krystal electric with a #27 Old Salty planner and a 30# outfit with a rubber band break away setup
    for my planner system.

I know this may sound weird, but 3 trips ago I started using a 3' piece of 400# 49 strand cable in front of my #27 Old Salty planner to prevent
cut offs. I have not had a planner bite in 3 trips. Could it be vibration or something from the cable going through the line and freaking
the fish out?? Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?
Or maybe could it be a bad cutless bearing?

I am still getting bites on top.

    Thanks,

The cable does make a hum and IMHO could be your problem.

    OKAY RICKSTER....

    JUST MY OPINION HERE...........

3 TRIPS? COULD BE COINCIDENCE....................BUT IT WOULD BE MY LAST COINCIDENCE.

YEARS AGO ...I MEAN YEARS AGO DURING MY "DOWN RIGGER DAYS" OF PULLING A PLANER WITH IT.....WE ALL USED THE 49 STRAND CABLE GOING DOWN TO THE PLANER WITH A RUBBERBAND RELEASE......

YEA YEA WE CAUGHT A FISH HERE AND THERE....BUT THAT 49 STRAND HUMMED LIKE PACK OF STRAY CATS.....AND THAT HUM PRODUCED ZERO TUNAS....

MY FIRST THOUGHT TO TELL YOU IS THE HI-VISIBLITY FACTOR OF SAID CABLE .....THE PLANER IS BAD ENOUGH AS FAR AS BEING NON STEALTH.......PLUS ...A POSSIBLE STREAM OF AIR BUBBLES COULD BE TRAILS OFF THAT CABLE AS WELL....

    Yea,

It could be a coincidence but I am for sure going to take the wire off next trip. Not 100% convinced, I think the wire hum (even though its 90' away) is probably the problem.

Before I went to the wire leash's I couldn't keep the planner baits in the water, now 3 trips with no bites

What about temp. changes and time of year ? Could it be maybe now the surface temp is a little warmer and keeping the fish on top, resulting in fewer planner bites Vs. the summer time when temps are a little cooler deeper and keep the fish a little deeper.

    Thanks,
