    planer rod/reel??

I have a customer that wants to use a Shimano 30WLRS on a #3 old salty planer for his wife.
Spooled with 80LB spectra, will the 30 be able to handle this set-up? He want's a smaller reel so his wife can handle the tackle after hook-up.

What will you be trolling for? How fast will you be going? Speed seems to be the kicker. I think it will act up on you over 4 knots.

Why not have the wife leave the rod in the holder and crank it in? The reel size won't matter much. Frankly unless they are trying to catch record fish the inline Planer disqualifies IGFA anyway...

I often run a #3 on an Avet 4/0. Works just fine, with drag to spare. Fishing approx 7 knts.
