PLANER ROD KILLS HOO @ 30+ KNTS

I was standing on the port side holding the T top and the leaning post. Can just see the light breaking to the east 3/4 moon bright out if you know what I mean. I look over the port rail when a missle comes straight out of the water at me, KABAHAM, WTF. Throttle back to check for damage and look for the fish. The cockpit looked like a tuna slaughter, the planer reel had blood packed into the braid and the reel was coated in blood, blood on the drivers face and under the T top but no body to be found! After checking out the damage we thought this might be a good place to start. NO ONE thought to take even a phone pic.
Electric Bill Chip called earlier this week said, said lets go kill some hoo's Friday, alright. We'll be there to pick you up at 0230, even better I'm thinking. Jason calls and say's bring YOUR MUSTARD I've got Brauts, will do. So it was Chip, Jason, Phil and me, We've killed a bunch of fish together and had a lot of good times on the water, was like a reunion.
We put them over and about 1/2 hr later the planer did its thing and a 30 lb target species hit the deck. The light got up and it went dead till about 1030. BAMALAMA the WFB comes down but just drags out, no screaming reel just steady go, HUM, well another one hits the deck, Okey doke. We managed to put a couple more nice ones in the box in the next 15 minutes then done for about an hour. I was standing by the planer when HUCHE MAMA WACKALAKA I thought the rod was going to be ripped out of the gunnel. I quick dropped the drag back, thought I had him on but come to find out she had broke the Spro swivel on the back of the bridal. I've only seen a few planer bites of this magnitude.
We find the yellow brick road and start picking at the slingers and a couple gaffers. We had pulled back to sling a fish in the boat and shortly after we put her in gear the planer goes bouncing again but don't come tight. I let it set fir a bit then give a couple cranks, bump bump, hum, crank crank, BHAM it's on. Feels like a nice fish, we get the planer off and I take the rod out of the holder and walk fwd to help the gaff man, we are on a CC. Around the stern it comes BROWN BACK, that's not a hoo, it's a dog. Chip came and took over the rod and I went back to release it. Little tip from uncle Rick, don't try to bill a bill fish with bare hands. I just about had the hook out before I called for help with gloves. Jason got the gloves and we got the hook out W/O taking the fish out of the water, clean release, nice. Had one more planer hoo bite before we called it a day and a 35 knt ride home. Final tally, we had a blast, 1 dog, 5 Hoo's 6 slingers and 2 gaffers the biggest 28 lbs, just right.

The pic of the reel is what was left of the road kill at the end of the day. Jason is going to post pics of the catch.

Enjoyed the trip today! Been a LONG time!! was like a reunion, we have had soooo many bloody deck days in the past, let's not wait too long to do it again.

That cruise missile would have taken Rick out if it wasn't for the meat stick. It was unbelievable how much blood was on the boat, even the underside of the t-top!

He tried, but was thankfully blocked by the meat stick!! Wouldn't have been pretty for Rick if it had.
