I don't mean to seem stupid but to run the planer, does the rod need to be a bent butt?

Hey Lazy,

This weekend I ran a #4 Old Salty planer on 80lb mono, 50lb Penn reel & 80-130lb 5' 9" straight butt Rod and it worked great. I ran it WWB and if I had to guess it was 80-100 feet deep.

Not sure if it's the best way, but it caught 45 pounders YFT and a 5 ' Mako this weekend!

The rod butt doesn't have to be bent...but the bent butt does take a ton of stress off the rod blank.
