    PLANER REELS...

    I am going to be getting a new planer rod but dont want to spend loads of money on another tiagra 80 or others that are recommended but i do have alutecnos 50s which i think would work but i am not 100 percent and got to ask..

    so...

    will the alutecnos handle a large planer and planer rod?

    I ran a Alutecnos 50w2s on my planer rod for 3 years it will handle up to #16 Old Salty's just fine. I am running a Alutecnos 802s now because I wanted to run larger planers than #16. I ran 200lb JB HC on the 50 and running 200 JB HC on the 80 as well.....Just Awsome reels.....Mark

    I have 2 planer rigs;
    Custom Rod - Penn 80STW - Ok for up to #16 Planer - Have to go beyond strike to slow a #16 Planer to just creeping off - brand new drags...

    Custom Rod - Avet 50EXW - Ok for up to #12 Planer - Have to go beyond strike to slow a #12 Planer to just creeping off - brand new drags...

    I don't have an alutencos to compare...

    When I win the Barta Planer rig, I'll have my Tiagra 80...

    You can run the preset to +1.5 without loosing freespool and it adds about 4-5more lbs of drag to the reel. I just left my preset on zero but if you need more drag it is there. I was running 3/4s of a full spool. and this gave me a about 3lbs more drag...Mark

    Shimano Tiagra 80 here and there's no substitute!....Look on ebay dude. You can find a barely used ST 80w for hundreds off the retail. replace the drag yourself. Put on JB200 hollow core and pull the Old Salty #24 all day long. Just make sure your in 120ft+ of water. The Tiagra 50 will handle a #16 planer.

    I know BOX won't think it's "up to his standards"...but....since your trying to save a few bucks...I got one you might be able to make work. Not quite a tiagra...but...you can probably come up with a way to make it work. If your interested I'll take a pic of it for you...sight unseen....50 bucks to the Boys & Girls club of NC from you...If I have to post pics first the donation will cost you $500 to The Boys and Girls Club of NC. Let me know if your interested.
