    Planer question

I am building a inline planer system for fishing here in the northern Gulf of Mexico. I have a 80W on a big roller rod and am Building the planer bridle like Box shows in his video. My question is how deep do ya'll think I will be able to get with a #4 sea striker planer with a blade width of 3 3/4" and length of 5"? I know most of ya'll prefer the old salty brand, but I cannot find them around here and this is the best I can do for fishing this upcoming weekend.

Also can I run this with my normal spread of ilanders and moldcrafts at a typical trolling speed of 6 to 8 knots?

    Thanks,
    Maclin

Depending on what your mainline is on the 80 will make a difference in running depth. But i would guess 10 to 20 feet is about what you would get to.

Oops meant 20 to 25 foot read dimensions wrong. Should be able to run it fine with spread you mentioned.

You might want to switch to a Old Salty #12 or #16 to start with. Old Saltys can be tripped while under way. That is a huge huge huge plus....Mark

Can you not trip the sea strikers at all?
My mainline is 80 lb mono.

I was thinking of running either a standard ilander/med ballyhoo, or a jr ilander/med ballyhoo. What are your expert opinions since this is all new to me?
    Thanks,

It will trip only if something hits it. You will have to almost stop the boat to retrieve the SeaStriker. They are a royal pain to work with on a planer rod. SeaStrikers are great for a cleated planer system where a piece of cord or large mono holds the planer but not for a planer rod...Mark
