Our Court House has been since 1881 a landmark in our little town of Pittsboro. A renovation was on the way and something went wrong yesterday around 4.30pm. A little slideshow says it all it's 2 blocks from our store...

The building may be a total loss from the reports I've heard. No deaths or injuries that I've heard either. I know Weekender is from Pittsboro, I live 30 minutes away. I was just by there last Thursday afternoon admiring the renovation. Sure is a shame.
Sorry to see report, thats alot of history gone. Brings back memories of a fire I witnessed in my home small town as a high school student. That night if you walked to see the fire you carried a fire hose. The town now has a park replacing the block of buildings that burned that night. Always a sad site to see such historical buildings that have been through times brought to this distruction. You can't replace the handmade craftsmanship that went into the buildings of those days. Work around them everyday and the lines of today aren't the same.
It appears that the building will be a total loss .... I heard that the clock tower fell in today....such a shame. It was a well known landmark for many.
