Billy, as you can see above, there is no doubt about the sarcasim in my post above.
The point that I was making is that it does no good to balme others because fish come unglued.
More importantly, this board has by far the highest caliber of billfishermen on the internet and there is a wealth of billfishing information on this board. It is overly clear you know nothing about billfishing, and I am concerned that many newcomers that do want to learn may somehow think your methods are accpted, correct, or frankly proper.
The fact remains, you have no earthly idea on how to catch billfish, how to fish for them, are as novice as the so called greenhornes on your boat, yet you spew garbage that simply is not correct.
If this is arrogate so be it--- but it is accurate and represents the reality of the situation. Now, I suggest you mind your manners in your half ass attempts to become hostile at me personally, grow up or carry your sillyness elsewhere.

P.S. It really was a good job raising 5 billfish on a single day.

Ok Glen I was Tuna fishing but I guessed you missed that in the report. Hence 1 for 3 on YFT. HMMMMM! I never said once that I was billfishing or looking for bills. HMMMMMMM! Nor did I say I was a bill fisherman! HMM! Yes I did say I had greenhorns on board and that is my fault. HMMMM! Is this what you are looking for? Now if I was bill fishing I would have done things a little different.

    1. Put a spanish on 400 leader back deep
    2. Sea star and a dink on the long rigger
    3. put an ilander with a horse on the long rigger
    4. have a teaser before my short rigger baits
    5. and then a couple naked on a split bill on my flats.
    6. if i could afford them i would put 2 dredges down as well.

As you can see I never once said I was bill fishing! Glen go back to your miserable life and you go somewhere else! Maybe you need to go fishing I believe that's what it is. I have been to Richmond and I can understand why you are so bitter.
Or you need god in your life!

billy - just my 2 cents - I would have pulled the chain away from that fish as fast as possible and brought the chain to the flatline dink bait which is always their in case a billfish comes up while we are tuna fishing. If he committed sucide on the chain I would have locked it up until drag came off the reel, backed off the drag to about 4 lbs and prayed that it was still stuck. If not - then it probably shouldn't have happened.

I would give glenn's left nut to see 5 billfish in a day. but then again after the 2nd enounter there probably would have been a bit of a tactical change and instruction on what to do if you see a little baseball bat quivering behind a bait.

Bottom line is you had a great day and those stupid little marlin make people do the absolute dumbest things. Would love to hear some of those stories from other board members.

    1. During the Mid-atlantic 500 I watched an extremely experienced tournament winning mate have a fish come up on the left long. Mate picked up the rod and tried to feed when another one came up on the flatline. He picked up that rod also and told the guy behind him to hold the left long. which he promptly handed it back to no one and dropped in the ocean.

    2. On a fun trip with my buddy ernie, eric and his daughter rachel I had one commit sucide on an ilander. Ernie took the wheel and made a turn before I expected. I exploded and asked him what the F- he was doing. He said he was trying to do the right thing and turn on the fish. I reminded one of my best friends that he has never done a f-ing thing right IN HIS LIFE including right the f-now. Well - we caught the fish and I had to aplogize a bit

Those little shits will make you lose your cool. But thats why they are so exciting.

Interesting how the first few posts on this thread were polite and subtle invitations to retract the blame game under a situation in which the author himself has no idea what he's doing. The immediate response from the author being one of vim and vinegar to those being polite and showing the true colors of a little man syndrome.
Best of luck out there buddy--- you named your boat well.

And 200LB leader should have been plenty on a 80 for a small blue one.

Again man, Just relax and have some fun. Read around here a little bit and you will find so much great info its unreal.

    relax a little man.

Yeah it does suck when you have guys on the boat that dont know shit and seem to F everything up when a bill is in the spread. Ive been that guy and it seems you have aswell. No reason in blaming a non experienced crew..you learn each and everytime out by f ing things up and knowing what NOT to do next time and what you COULD have done to prevent missing 5 shots.

Five shots at bills is an awesome day period, but like mentioned above if it were me, i would have switched things up abit after i missed the 1st and 2nd fish. Read around the site and youll see that many of these guys are awesome billfishermen.

Congrats on an awesome day on the water, hope you get em next time.

he said relax a little, man

Great job on having a shot at 5 bills. I wish I could say the same! Consider yourself lucky as I have only had one paying trip so far this season and it was for sharks. I wil miss out on a pay trip on Saturday cause of my sons birthday party. After that I don't have anything scheduled. Though times, so congrats on taking a shot.

Judt a suggestion, do like Bill said and pull him into the flatline next time or have a pitch rigged and ready (naked and rigged stiff). As for the help being green, it happens.

I have pulled my share of boneheaded moves as I still am not an expert. I once tossed about a pitch bait to a marlin that came up on a spreader while tuna fishing. The boss reeled it in as fast as he could from the bridge as I made a perfect drop from the transom on a tld25 pulling him off the spreader, pinned him and immediately bowed up. only one problem. I never closed the small 80lb snap swivel. Was not the most popular mate in the charter's eyes when I reeled in the bait only to find a straighten swivel with the end bend perfectly in tact.
