Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could share some information on Ballyhoo pin rigs like what size hook to use and the other materials for the rig?

    It Depends...

What are you fishing for??? There are numerous variations an versions. The traditional rig uses wire, a rubberband, or rigging spring to attach your ballyhoo. We typically would only use a "pin rig" if we were strictly tuna or dolphin fishing and NOT marlin fishing...the pins bother them. We typically use 6/0 to 9/0 short shank J hooks on 100# mono with Billfisher copper sleeves one size larger than you would use for 100# mono...#1.3. I think rubber bands work best, but have used wire and rigging springs when I have had them as well.

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures for you.

Good luck. I am sure others will post with some pictures.

Here is a great little rigging tip - this one will save you a few fish, when toothy critters are in the area...

I like a medium ballyhoo with a 8/0 Mustad 7961 with 1/2 or 1/4 ounce chin weight (depends on size of sea witch) with a short piece of wire running through the hook, chin weight, and crimp. Right now I am using rubber bands instead of monel wire because rubber bands are much quicker to rig. The monel is better because it attaches the ballyhoo tighter to the rig.

I use the exact same rigging and set-up as O-Sea-D, I like Monel better I feel I can rig that better. I just rig a few extra and when we get a fish put the new rig on, and re-rig the one you have.
