HERE IS THE SCENARIOLA......THE PONEYTAIL IS NOW A FREELANCER HERSELF IN THE WORK FORCE....HER DEGREE IS FINANCE FROM VA TECH ...SO NOW SHE PLANS ON DOING SOME IN-HOME FREELANCE ACCOUNTING/BOOKKEEPING....
SHE NEEDS A NEW LAPTOP....ANY SUGGESTIONS? THOUGHTS? IDEAS?
SHOULD WE BUY FROM LOCAL RETAIL OUTLET? ONLINE? ETC
i really really like the new dells.. they are moderately prices and they work great.. the only downfall is the vista unless you truly like it which it is not bad once you get used to it as i see you already use it box..
i would call dell direct and they are always putting stuff on special...
I've had a Dell for a few years and am happy with it. This is my second one. You can go on Dell's website and choose only the options you need as you build it.
I know a few people with a Macs and they swear by it. I can't seem to figure out how anything works on them. I also have a HP home computer which is very easy to use and am overall happy with the quality.
The only downside I see with Dell is the customer service. If you need tec. support you have to speak to someone in India who reads off a script to attempt to solve your issue.
I like Dell Laptops as well am on my second one. Another thought is to buy a mac laptop Mac Book, with the duo core Intel, download Boot camp from apple, buy windows XP from Tiger direct and have it run windows.
I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-74 damn good laptop.Had a smaller version before this one,no real complaints on either one.I wish the one I have now had a little bigger screen. But they are proud of them....
I run a Mac and love it- fast as hell and it does everything that I need (video, picture editing, even Office) easily.
Before that I had a unit that I got from a local computer store- custom built to my specs for what I wanted...I have to say it was nice just picking up the phone to call the guy 2 miles down the street when things weren't working. Plus if it broke it was easy to toss it in the back seat and drive it down the road. There is something to be said for supporting the local guy, and you usually get much better service
Congrats to the ponytail for taking the plunge into freelance work....it seems that you may have a partner in crime now when it comes to movie making...I have a feeling we're going to hit all new levels of Box films in the near future
"Custom Built Dell" call them tell them what your gonna do and let them build it for you still cheap after many years still doing what you need done, buy the extended warrenty with replacement.
i will second the mac. probook 15in is a nice rig. best part about it, dont gotta worry bout virus's so much. dells have a tendency to crash, and if they dont, run slow cause of all the unnecessary horse sh*t they preload them with.
mac can run windows, but lots of people who switch to them dont even bother. hell, i managed to convert all the tech weenies that i work with to get mac's.
