    Dutch,
I have a stand of 850's, eight in all, that I use for Cobia fishing, Drum fishing, Amberjack fishing etc. (all from the boat) charter fishing so they take a beating. They have held up great for me over the years. It's like anything else though, it's what you are comfortable with. We stay on top of ours as far as maintenance goes and I know that has made a difference.

    Good luck,
    Troy

The 850's are made with an aluminum body and the Slammers are composite which of course is lighter so it may be better for you in the surf . You will have some corrosion issues on the 850's eventually but I think they are better in the long run, at least for what I do with them.

    Good luck,
    Troy

Ditch, go with the 750, built like a tank and is more the old school style Penn, heavy but almost bullet proof. I have a boat full of Slammers and after 6 years of service, I finely have one that has to go to the shop for a new bearing... . The Slammer 750 has one of the best drags out of the box you can buy for the price, take the spool off each reel and you can see the difference between the 2. 750 is much smoother than the 850ss from start up to full tilt buggy screaming and gets over 50lb. drag out of the box. I am not sponsored by Penn, just telling what works for me with every day abuse. I can not keep Shamino spinning reels working for over a year on my boat...

    Lee, thanks for your input.

I'm not much on the technical issues just know what works for me. We site cast with them on Ugly sticks and catch some pretty big Cobia and Drum on them all Summer long from 40 to 80 pounds and up, along with jigging for the big Jacks and the drags take a whippin.
They have always held up really well for me. I may have replaced the drag washers in about half of them in the past few years.

    Good fishin,
    Troy
