Over Under Lobster Claw Report/ Met Marty @ the MA500
Worked on the Over Under (Justified) with Capt. Neil Greenberg and Dave Doelbey Fri into Sat. Headed to the claw for some Bluefin action, arrived at 5ish got on the troll and boated a small YFT. Went to our numbers that Dave hooked us up with and set the hook. A scalloper roles by and not a min later Capt. Neil yells from the tower "marking tune on the bottom!" Next thing I know three reels start screaming!!! An hour later we boated a 68 incher!! It was a quit night with minimal squid being caught by the little guys on board, and I applauded there work because the next morning the squid were like candy for these fish! From 5am till 830 it was like the tuna were waiting in line to be boated and release. Six or seven tuna hit the deck then set free. It’s a great feeling catching a tuna for a charter and providing them with meat but it’s even better to release a fish so it can swim a bit longer. We had a few hook ups on jigs a few on sardines and the rest on squid. I think we ended the trip with 8 for 12 taking home a yft and a 68inch 145lbs (W/O guts) BFT. Everyone had a blast!
I was at the MA500 tonight at weigh-ins and say Marty WAHOONBOX and I have to say he is one of the coolest guys I ever met. I don't know this guy from a whole in the wall just love to read and watch his posts and he talked with me for a solid half-hour. Telling me how is day went and stories of past trips and really got me back to posting on this site. I admit after my first few posts with very little feedback i was turned off from posting here and only looked at his threads. But after talking with him he really was an all-around great guy. I wish there were more guys in this tourney like Marty. It was so cool he was acknowledged me i went over to the owner of sportfisherman.com and let him know what a awesome guy he has in his corner. If it wasn't for him and his videos, encouragement, and posts I wouldn't have posted this thread and be as knowledgeable as I am today. Thanks Marty I would love to come BS with you again this week I remember where you said your boat was but forget the name. If you wouldn't mind calling me or posting the name I would love to go shoot the you know what with you. 856-889-0538 if you feel more comfortable my email is tfruits45@hotmail.com Thanks again Marty! Hopefully my posts will help guys who are just getting into the sport, like Box has helped me.
Hey Fighting Irish. Thanks for the report of the hot tuna fishing on the Over Under.
Glad you were able to hook up with Marty. He is the man you described.
We often don't get a whole lot of response to our posts here, but I assure you that the folks who look at them are mostly good passionate fishermen just like you.
Keep posting and bring us pictures when you can.
Cheers,
SeaBiscuit
Irishman, do keep on bringing us reports about fishing in your area. It's a breath of fresh air while we battle the hot summer further south and always great to read about what other folks are doing. We too don't get much reponse but sure Love lurking on this site!
Great Box is also the one who got us hooked on here!...
MM
Great report irish, cant say enough good thing about the box, he's made many a member feel right at home, I have not fished on the justified yet but have been out with trey a few times, a couple of trips with Pete behind the sticks, unfortunatly hes no longer with O.U.A, and the last time out with Joe running out of avalon, always a good time with that outfit...first class.
And your right there is no better feeling than releasing a fish to live another day.......and maybe 50lbs later you can take him on again!
Keep em coming....i personally love reading everybodies reports, since most of the week im behind a desk and just recently ive been dubbed no show!...Post away man...makes me feel like im back out there full time again...well almost
and box is a great dude...very entertaining as well!
