Family just rented a big house on the beach on the Outer Banks for the last week in August.
What can I expect for fishing locally that time of year?

Absolute best time for White Marlin out of Oregon Inlet. Wahoos and Dolphin throughout the OBX then. From Hatteras to MHC, add Sailfish but fewer White Boys. Some Blue Marlins still around OI but not in any great numbers.

Full moon in August has historically been Big Blue marlin time out of Oregon Inlet. Top marlin boats are booked years in advance.
That, of course, is in addition to everything Glenn W correctly noted.

Hey Box,
Paradise Island right on the beach, big 10 bed/10 bath house with the pool, spa etc, sweet set-up.
Probably come down for 5 days, do some fishing and chill a little, check out the local scene.

Thanks for the info guys, it sounds like the fishing should be over the top.

If you get blown out try the old drum in the sound area behind Ocracoke, beneath Wanchese and Engelhard. Some tarpon around too. Local guides can put you on them.
