Are you using glass eyes on your riggers? If not try that .... I use 800 lb test commercial grade on mine.

I use the hal-locks. They work great.

Here is what i use and it works AWESOME.
Get yourself a Hal-lock, some low diameter nylon dock line, and a jam cleat.

I use a Jam Cleat similar to R3596

    Do this:

    1) With a wire cutter, snip off the snap that comes on the end of the hal-lock bungee. LEAVE THE RING.

    2) Take maybe 2' of the low diameter nylon dock line and loop splice one end of it to the ring on the hal-lock. If you don't know how to splice, have an old salt at the dock do it for in exchange for a cold one.

    3) Now, take your jam cleat and mount it on the gunnel with self-tappers IN PRE-DRILLED HOLES SEALED WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF SILICONE. I know self-tappers are the devil but sometimes you have no choice. Mount where you would NORMALLY clip your halyard pulled rig to.

    4) Feed the free end of the nylon line through the jam cleat, make a not in very end of the free end so it can't slip through the jam cleat.

    5) Rig your lines through the pulley and VOILA!!!

You now have an ADJUSTABLE tension halyard system.

This is awesome...why? Well you aren't relying on the bungee for keeping the tension. I know our outriggers REALLY tighten up when we put them back in the locked position.

With this you don't have to keep adjusting your mono as it stretches throughout the season, just pull some more nylon through the jam cleat to tighten it up.

Running big spreader bars and worried about the halyards creeping down??? No problem lock the halyards with the hal-lock thingy and you are good to go.

I wish i could take a pic of our setup, may just have to draw one!

I'd much rather have creeping halyards than too tight halyards.

In a pinch you can stop the creep with a rubberband, but a longline clip is the best thing. The only issue I have with the Hal-locks is that they are plastic - they get brittle.

I have stainless blocks at each eye - the tip is a single, second to last is a double - for long and short, third is a triple - Long, short and teaser, and on the gunnel is a triple as well. I keep a long line clip on the gunnel.

Malin makes a small diameter Dacron for outriggers, use that , a hal lock pulley, and a jam cleat , works great

Actually, I have a pulley at the top, bottom and middle of my riggers and use 400 lb. mono. To prevent creeping, I use clips that I bought at I believe Joe Shutes. They had them on the Run-Off and I liked them. Works like a charm!!
