Hey Tyler, thanks for the post...great shots.
couple clarifications for everyone... There are two different models of this 21' boat right now. That is creating a bit of confusion. We have one of each here in Avalon/Stone Harbor right now.
The "Classic" (see picture below), is the boat that is currently out front at Stone Harbor Marina. The engine in that boat is located in the back of the boat and coupled directly to an outdrive. We've built one with a D-3 (190hp) Volvo and the other with a 195hp Yanmar so far. This layout is basically like a big flats skiff, with a large bench seat (over top the engine) in the back. The ring deck layout is different too...there is an extra large dry storage box, just aft of the anchor locker. This box is removed in the CC version, so you can fish all the way around the bow, giving more deck space.
(Mirage 21 Classic)
The "Center Console", (the one Tyler took out and has photos of), which we've finally finished rigging here at Avalon Point Marina, is quite different, although the hull is the same. The D-3 Volvo is located underneather the console, and is jack-shafted to the Duo-Prop outdrive. The shaft runs under the deck. This opened up the cockpit and turned the boat into a true center console. The other main difference is the abscense of the large storage box up forward, which i mentioned above.
(Mirage 21 CC)
Both boats hold 100 gallons of diesel and burn 5-6 gph doing 25-30 knots (or more, depending on how much fuel/people you have onboard). We've had some questions on why the console is located a bit aft of normal.... We located the console in the CC version where it is, to keep things simple with the first boat. There was a limitation on how long the jack-shaft could be, without going to a more comlicated (but very doable) arrangement. The console can pretty much go wherever you want it on these boats....they are "semi-custom".
Currently we have an outboad boat about 75% completed. with this version, there is even more flexibility on location of console, fuel, etc....
After the white marlin open I had the chance to run the Classic down to OCMD with a friend and we then picked up the CC and ran both back to Avalon. I ran one down, the other back. What I can say, is that there is something very special and unique about the ride of this "engine fwd." CC model.... it really has that big boat ride.
Thanks for all the comments.
Trey
PS: Our original 21 Classic has been to the Bahamas and back on it's own bottom several times. I wouldn't hesitate to run this thing just about anywhere, given the right weather conditions.....

Nice looking boat Trey..Do you have the overall specs on the CC. One of the biggest issues I have with my boat is all the wait is in the back. I like the weight distribution under the console..Good luck with the boats.
a few friends took the center console version out a few weeks ago and raved about it...do you plan on making anything in the 24foot range?
Here are the specs:
Mirage 21 Center Console
Specifications
LOA: 20 ft. 6 in.
Length Overall 22 ft. 10 in.
Beam: 8 ft. 6 in.
Fuel Capacity: 100 gal.
Deadrise (transome) 19 degrees
Deadrise (Bow) 53 degrees
Tested Power Volvo D-3, 190hp
Top Speed: 45 knots
Cruise Speed: 35 knots
Fuel Burn (at Cruise) 6 gph
Fuel Efficiency 6 mpg at 35 knots (this would have to be light...but it can be done, 30 knots is very realistic)
-We are building the re-designed 32' right now. A lot of people have asked about something in-between. We are thinking likely 26'....but right now we are pretty focussed on this new 32' design... most of our time and energy is being spent on the 32' project right now. We decided to do something a bit different and unique with the 32, and you will see similarities in what we are doing in boats like the 31' Bertram, 33 Blackfin, 37 Rybovich, etc...
This is a rendering of what we are shooting for. Exact same look (flare/sheer line, tumblehome) as the 21, but a much different layout. True "day-boat" with a 3 sided hard enclosure, single level deck and open from the transom to the stairs going down to the cabin. Dual Stations (drive from up top or down below), enclsosed head, galley and v-berth fwd, below deck.
We are putting VOLVO IPS in the first one, but outboards, inboards, i/o, or single diesel are all possible on this rig. This mold is based on the original Mirage 32' Hull. We have change almost nothing on the bottom, so it has the same deep-v that it had before. We expect it will ride even better (it was pretty darn good before) with the engines being moved fwd. under the helm, and the IPS should be pretty cool and quite efficient.
