I used to bass fish Buggs Island Lake (Kerr) alot and would get tickled every time-- The Virginia boys always ran across to pound the banks on the Carolina side while the Tar Heels flocked to the Virginia shore

With fuel @ $4.00/gal I'll be hard pressed to run all that way to simply get to the other side with no structure unless there is one hell of a cool water eddy hooked in during the summer.
As far as the overnighter thing goes in Carolina--- been there done that twice and am in no hurry to do it again. Do ya'll know how fast that tide cranks past 1,000 fathoms?--- The second trip, we set up on the 700 line in deeeeeep ass water and were off Occracoke Inlet before we knew it--- what a lovely night--- thunder boomers on the front side of an incoming cold front that was supposed to form well to the North. 5'-6' from dusk till midnight--- then it got shitty.

100 miles just to the edge! $2,000 fuel only! and as Box says, shit changes real fast out there, we usually stay overnite on the drift.

These guys aren't going over there meat fishing. They aren't looking for a lot of bites...they are looking for Bosco to come a callin'. These guys don't want bites from dolphin, wahoo, or tuna...they'll certainly take a big one to help pay for bills, but they aren't looking for them.

If the proper spread it presented, I think you may happen upon some good meatfishing.

This is my theory...sounds believable to me.
