Oregon Inlet Tuna Roundup Team Still Think'n
Still Think'n" reigns supreme yet again, taking top honors in the Outboard Division of the 3rd Annual Pirate's Cove Tuna Roundup. Day one saw slick calm seas and light winds. Tuna were a little hard to find, but with the recon from the night before and a fast 28 foot Southport as their platform, the crew of "Still Think'n" picked up lines and headed for a warm eddy on the 930 line just south of the Triple Zero's. Setting down, they immediately found themselves 4 deep in Mahi hookups. Ten to 20 pound Mahi were nailing the spread continuously on the warm side of a temp break and color change. For the next 2 hours Brian Steadman, Mike Winner, Colin Ottersten, Don Malkowski and team captain Bob DuBell, boxed 26 Mahi, 2, 3 and 4 at a time, including a 26 pound Bull caught by Mike that would seal their lead on the board. They could have easily caught a boat limit of 60, 15 to 20 pound Mahi, but having a box of Mahi cooling on ice, they released the remaining fish caught as they searched for a potentially bigger Bull.
Day two conditions were polar opposites and saw seas up to 5 feet, but they still worked for some tuna. None were to be had for them this year, but the 26 pound Bull would hold on for "Still Think'n" to place in the money for the 3rd year in a row.
Twenty-two boats comprised the entire field of players. "Some Kinda Good" took top boat with the biggest bag, but top money prizes were paid out to "Point Runner" from the $76,000.00 purse.
