    Opinions on Quick disconnect fittings

I have two fishboxes in the deck of my pit which are connected to a macerator pump that goes overboard. I want to be able to disconnect these hoses from time to time to gain access to systems under there or just to lift them out for cleaning and such.

I found these on-line and wanted to know if anyone out there has ever used them.

Any suggestions or opinions are appreiciated.

    Thanks

Cam lock fitting like that are the way to go if you want to be able to remove the pumps and such with no fuss.

I dont think you will be dissapointed if you use them.

My major concern would be with the hose since it does not seem to be rated for use with any type of liquid...."This is used for air, fume, and light particle exhausting, blowing, and low vacuum."

You might want to think about using CG rated hose with a CG rated fitting for the end of hose that goes through the hull for discharge of the box.

You may want to consider whether you should use all CG rated components. Some insurance policies will deny a claim if something happens to a boat and it was caused by a non-CG rated component. I admit it's not likely in the application you're using these, but it's just a thought.

    That's a good point.... I didn't think about that.

The discharge is above the water line.... would that make any diffrence?

Yea....I do understand that the discharge is above the water line and in reality it probably doesn't make a difference in this application, but some insurance policies are stricter than others. You might want to read your policy carefully and/or talk to one of the surveyors here on SFC and get their opinion.

Regardless, think I would seriously consider a different type hose though.....

The fittings will work fine, go heavier on the hose. Try an oil resitant suction and discharge hose. Stick with either plastic or SS for the fittings, alum or brass will corrode and you will never get them apart.

    Got the fittings today...

Nice quality stuff and not very heavy..... the best part is where they are made.

    Not expensive either......

Now i will be able to just pull my fishbox insert out.... disconnect these fittings....... and carry the box up to the fish cleaning table.

I am going to get better tubing.... I think I may have enough left over from when I installed the vacu-flush on the Stamas.

    Thanks for the help folks.
