Ollie Raja BFT Report FP Shoals
Captain Kevin Sneed from Feedin Frenzy Charters and I worked it hard Monday and Tuesday. Monday was cold and the highlight of the day was the good nap I got in while Kevin was running the Ollie Raja. Heard of one short released and a couple of spooled reels on Monday so hope was there. Bait seemed to be more in the slew. Tuesday we left out at 4:30 and made the track back out. Wally of the fish whistle was on it early hitting the area before daylight. You know the saying the early bird gets the worm. He broke the brunswick curse and decked a 83 inch fish. While working the big fish he had a short hit the bait he had pulled in that was in the propwash. Sounded kind of crazy from the radio as the swivel almost took his finger off as it came off of the reel. Congrats to he and Greer these guys are two of the best and very hard workers. Kevin and I started around the knuckle and the bait and marks where really good. Cold water though around 55 and no action. Al and Zack from Pole Poppers charters were working farther off shore and found some warmer water. With good reports from them we headed our bow that way and trolled along paitiently. We doubted our move since no bait all the way to the raritan. Kept pushing out and spotted some birds away from the fleet moved in that direction with a little help from a secret weapon and bam... the shallow planer rod starts humming. Kevin is pumped since its his second trip BFTing. I grab the rod put a little more heat on the fish and let kevin take over while I man the boat and clear some lines and the planer. Chinese fire drill, no matter how many times you do it, always a cluster. I leave the long line out since this fish seems to be a little on the small side. Kevin horses it to the boat and I'm thinking its a big king...... Nope a juvey BFT. Little guy...... Kevin wants a pic so we get him in the boat for a quick shot while I'm taking the pic I see two big fish do the tuna jump I'm tripping.... and Boo yaahhhh the 80 wide bait that is drifting along with the sea gets smacked.... She starts screaming and Kevin is freaking. He grabs the wheel and punches the verado to set the hook. Nearly throwing me out of the boat.... In the meantime I'm trying to get the hook out of this short and blood is going everywhere. Finally get it out and Kevin gets the short back in the water and he takes off like a bolt of lightning. I've got the 80 in hand and line is stretched out from here to Morehead were looking good though no boats in that direction. I hand the 80 off to Kevin who is driving the boat also and head up front to get the harness on. While I'm gearing up the line goes slack and kevin starts reeling frantically we think the fish is headed to the boat but its only a facade. The big one had ran out about 900 yards of line and the hook pulled. Oh well that's fishing right........We tried to get back on the fish but as quickly as they appeared and the ocean was alive with bait birds and busting tuna it all dissapeared. I'm done for this week and waiting for good weather and will hit it again after Christmas. As for Kevin he's hooked for life and back out there again today.
hope you enjoyed our story

Great write up! Great story. Felt like I was about to go overboard when Kevin set the hook with the Verados.

Congrats Cane. Keep on fishing, and you'll get a legal fish. If you come north, let me know. We'll go get a bite to eat.
