Old Salty Planer #1 & #2
I love these planers but they seem to trip very easily at higher speeds and heavier lures. I dont have the problem often when running at less that 4 mph, or with smaller Drone spoons but over that, the rig trips often. Would running a smaller ring or tieing directly solve the problem?
Thanks

HOW LONG ARE YOUR LEADERS FROM THE PLANER TO THE HOOK?
WHAT LURE ARE YOU PULLING BEHIND THE #1 & #2 PLANER WHEN IT TRIPS?
REMEMBER THAT LINE IN THE WATER IS DRAG....AND DRAG IS FORCE-A PRESSURE THAT WILL TRIP SMALL PLANERS....
ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS SO I CAN CONTINUE
HOPEFULLY I CAN HELP AND HOPEFULLY OTHERS WITH CHIP IN

Specifics:
I am using a 7' - 8' 80# flouro leader with #4 snap swivel. The lure is a 5.5" LB Huntington Drone spoon. Perhaps the erratic action of the spoon leads to increased tripping of the planer?
I find that the matanza with cigar minnow rig can pull at higher speeds without tripping.
Thanks

Have tryed #3 Old Salty planers, 40# mainline, 20' 40-50# leader to a drone. 5.5-6 knots. Can not them to stay down unless I run under that speed and maybe 20' down.
Sea Striker is all I use under #16, 16-24-32. Old Salty no question.
