    OKAY GEEKSTERS...SOLVE THIS!

    I GO TO BESTBUY AND PLUNK DOWN SOME JINGLE FOR NEW VIRUS SOFTWARE.

    WEBROOT SPY SWEEPER/ WEBROOT ANTI-VIRUS

    THE INFO STATES I CAN ADD THIS TO A MAX OF THREE COMPUTERS

    I HAVE ADDED IT TO PONEYTAILS LAPTOP VISTA AND IT WORKS FINE

    I THEN ADDED OR TRIED TO ADD IT TO MY PC GATEWAY GM 5664...VISTA

    I DO THE DOWNLOAD THING AND IT GETS TO THE POINT IN THE PHOTO BELOW AND THEN SHUTS DOWN AND STOPS...I MEAN LITERALLY STOPS....I DID A MANUAL SWEEP THIS MORNING AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS........I HAVE NO CURSOR WHEN THIS HAPPENS....ZILCH...I HAD TO LITERALLY UNPLUG MY COMPUTER TO SHUT IT DOWN ...I HAVE DONE THIS PROCEDURE 3 TIMES NOW



    TIPS?

    MAYBE THE MOSSBERG?

    TRASH?

    BREAK BAD DOWN AT BEST BUY WITH THE MOSSBERG??

    I'm a firm believer in McAfee or Symantec for my personal computers and my company makes an anti-virus.

    Now you get to RTFM or go on their web site and try and find some hint as to what to do when it hangs.

    I would try excluding the directory listed from the sweep and see what happens - if it gets further or continues to hang.

    Ok box, how long would you guess that the program was scanning this single file. This could just be a huge file of gateways and it just is going to take it a long time to scan completely. Also when running this scan, don't use the computer. Let it do its thing and finish scanning then use the computer. These scans take huge amounts of memory up on the computer and sometimes by using other programs while doing the scan can just overload the computer. I would begin the scan and just let it do its thing, give it about 1-2 hours. With as many large files as you have on your computer its going to take a while. If its still locking up your computer, take it back to best buy and get a refund. Personally I would not go with web root software. Buy a program called Symantec norton anti virus, or mcafee anti virus. Both are great programs, they are what we run on all of our computers. These two programs are the anti virus software that is installed on many computers and servers in hospitals and doctors offices.

    Why are my sweep hanging or seeing installation damaged message?


    The answer (semi lame but plausible)

    Sweep or install issues can occur due to hard drive errors, which may get addressed by checking your hard drive for errors, and having Windows try and correct any that are found.

    To invoke a Check Disk, go to Start > Computer or My Computer > right-click on the Local Disk you are trying to run the software from or sweep > choose Properties > go to Tools tab > under Error-checking choose Check Now.
    Check the box for “Automatically fix file system errors” and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
    The scans will require a reboot to run, and could take up to several hours to complete.
    Repeat for all drives that are being swept.

    If looking for evidence of disk errors, they are often found by reviewing the Windows System Event log. The quick way to get to the event logs is to right-click on My Computer and choose Manage and open Event Viewer. When examining the event log, it is best to sort by Type or Event and look for Errors in recent timeframe. Error Event Ids of particular interest are Error Event 55 and 7 which typically points to hard disk failure. If numerous hard disk failures are observed even after Error-Checking is run, it is recommended that you have the computer examined by a professional for potential hard drive replacement.

    Return the program to Best Buy. Then go to Computer Associates. I think it is CA.com get there Internet Security Suite. Actually better than Norton, because it does not take the massive amount of resources to operate. Therefore it does not slow down the operating system. Vista is bad enough. With Norton you will really run slow.

    Running defrag and chkdsk.exe, (except at startup,) can still freeze or stop running if there are too many programs running in the memory, but once they are running walk away from the pc and don't interrupt it, some hard drives and o/s are not as forgiving.
