Oil Drilling off The NC Coast

I just heard some talk on the radio this morning about drilling for oil of the NC
    Coast.

What to you think good or bad ?

The boys in the Gulf love to fish the rigs and I have seen some really
great fish caught by the platforms.

I am sure I would support it if someone asked me. Hell, I live less than 10
mile from from a nuke plant. So I trust "big business" and I dont recall any major oil spills comming from the rigs in the Gulf so I guess its pretty safe.

    i say bring it.

the only ones bitching about it are the ones worried that they will be able to see rigs from the beach.....when in fact, the oil is located out on the continental shelf. and i dont think leupold or swarovski even makes binocs big enough for people to see out that far .

if you dont fish, you would never even know they were there........

    Pros and Cons

I have fished the Gulf coast every year for the past 20 years and the fishing for the most part is vary good around the rigs. The only downfall that I can say is that at least half of the times that I’ve been out you will find floating oil on the surface of the water. The other problem is that oil will wash up on the beaches and make a lot of people mad. There is also the King Fishing that is world class but don’t eat one over 45” due to mercury.
P.S. I’m not a tree hugger but that’s just a couple of thoughts.

They were talking about possibly putting up some windmills like you see out in The Great Plains to generate power for the Delmarva Pennisula. That idea was shot down quickly by those that lived near the beach because they didn't want to see them. Come on people, this is what we need to do to provide us with the priveldges that we have in the many years to come!!! Hell it could even lower costs of fuel and electric possibly???

My random thoughts that make no cents

    Aloha!
There is oil leaking from the gulf. I lived in S.Florida for a number of years. Quite a few hotels have tar removal showers and foot wash stations so ya don't track the goo inside

How does anyone know where the platform will be located? They will be exploring right? Who really knows where they gonna find the stuff or where a finger of the underground pool will be close to shore that they gonna want to tap instead of a more costly tap way off shore.

I got nothing against the modern windmills. I don't even think they look that bad. They may prove to be effective, if coupled with some solar pannels, at providing a local government with an alternate fuel source for a small project. The problem is the over-all cost and start-up cost is higher than burning oil. Each system is custom built and ya know how expensive custom is.

Nuke energy. I don't have a problem with it but I do have a fear some towel head is gonna crash a plane into one. Everytime we think we have those barbarians figured out they get more crazy and do the unthinkable. Their fanatical religion teaches them we are the devil and we don't deserve to live and polute their idolical world with our beliefs

I love it when I see the guys that make a car that burns the fryer grease from restaurants

Or the guy that sticks a solar panel on the roof of his house and sells the excess energy to the electric company

I wish I was that smart but I'm not. Does anyone know what time it is? I forgot to wind my watch

I think they are a great idea. I think the upsides are far greater than the downsides. Everyone has complained about fuel prices. No one ever has any suggestions on how to bring prices down, and when they do, tree huggers pitch a fit. The mideast isnt going to give us the oil, and if we can up our national production, they will have to lower their prices to compete. I think that upping our oil production is something that should have happened years ago to reduce the stronghold opec has over the U.S. True, they do pollute to an extent, but like Tommy said, I think if you put them on the edge of the stream, very little would ever reach shore. The increase in habitat would be tremendous and lets not forget the increase in labor. Each oil rig creates hundreds of jobs, high paying jobs at that, which would also undoubtedly help the economy of coastal NC. I say bring them. Get some up here to VA too.
