With the weather looking decent and the reports of more Hoos chewing I was determined to get a crew and head out on Sat. Crew was me, Mike, and Max our new Canadian exchange pilot who had never saltwater fished.
We busted the inlet bright and early and slogged our way out to our planned area. We had our lines in the water not long after sunrise hoping for the early bite that just didn’t happen. It was pretty slow for us we had 1 short strike and a decent Hoo that met steel. Both bites came on the planner rod. Max got to catch his first salt water fish and his biggest fish ever which was cool.
Later in the day we met up with the Merry Marlin crew and did some deep dropping. We didn’t get any groupers, but end up with some more meat in the box. I believe at the end of the day we had caught 7 different species of fish. Max also had a great time bottom fishing.
Overall the day was a little less productive than I had hoped, but we had a great time and put some fish in the box. Max said he really enjoyed his day and wants to go again , that is always satisfying.
Max with his first Wahoo!
