Offshore 5/30: Short & Sweet (Pics & Video)
My son Stephen and I boarded the TARDIS early Sunday morning and headed out for some offshore fishing.
I also brought two other friends: Black Bart and Uncle Josh! More on this later.
When I got to the 14 buoy and saw that the temperature was only 68 degrees, my attitude was something like this ->
Went farther and saw that it was still 68 degrees, and it was more like this ->

Finally found the temperature break. It wasn't difficult, half of Morehead City was fishing there.
Fished that area briefly and picked up 3 mahi, releasing two. Stephen caught the one we kept, and it was the biggest one of the day. This one came in an 8" blue/white Ilander with an Uncle Josh pork rind on the end. I rubber banded it to the cleat and ran it short.
Worked our way to the 90 and saw something cool. A mahi jumped out of the water chasing a flying fish. When he landed, he took our Elk Hunt Jr. lure! We let him go because he was small.
Hit the 90 around 9AM and started trolling our way home. Picked up 2 more, both on Black Bart Tuna XXX black/purple color.
Called it a day around 10AM. Not a typo. We headed in, ate lunch, took a nap, and went to a movie. We spent more time getting there and back than we did actually fishing!
So the final tally was 6 mahi with 3 released and 3 kept. 2 Came in on Black Bart Elk Hunt Jr. (yellowfin tuna color), 3 came in on Tuna XXX (black/purple), and 1 on Ilander/pork strip (blue/white). We kept 1 small one because he was gut hooked.
I also want to acknowledge my son Stephen for hanging in there through those rough seas. It was a long, rough trip, and we had to travel farther than thought because of the cool water at the 14. But he hung in there, and we were blessed with good fishing for a couple of hours.

If Ignorance is bliss, Why aren't more people happy?
Nice day. Nothing wrong with coming in early with dinner.
That break was pretty solid - both the temp change and the color change.
