Marty well said. I for one am here BECAUSE of the people. It is what makes the world go round. Opportunities are there for everyone if they just reach out and grab them. I was not here a few years back, heck I probably would not even been here if it was not for that one day the dock with my two kids.. But I am a better person because of this site. Yes that's right, a better person. Yes I am a better fisherman. You can't look at this site and not improve. But communication with people, even when you can't see them, makes one better. I attribute my added passion of learning the art of fishing and communicating with people to this site. I do tend to stay away from the rant and rave post. Most are just not productive. In short I am here, as I know others are, because it is people helping people. My sons and I sit and watch videos from this site and their love and communication is growing. For fishing and for their family. Heck I have clicked on ads here that I know nothing about, but still wouldn't if they were not on SFC. Guys we have a great place here and I know it will continue to grow. This is probably the longest post I have had, but my goal is to reiterate what Marty has said. You can bet your back end that when or if I decide to do anything with my boat, house or land at MH that it will go here first if applicable. I know the 100,000 thread got a lot of attention, but I see none more important than this one. Thanks to everyone on this site and God Bless!!!

I hope that this site grows to beat google for that matter.
I use this site for all fassets of fishing .....i.e. technical, sportfishing, materials for hulls, boat maintenance, commercial fishing, charters, for sale items.............
and the list goes on.

Great post Box. That went back even before I was a member here, never thought I would have over 4,000 posts and people would like to read what I had to say, but they did and all that made me want to post more, some BS and some good content.

I can not say what a better person I am because of SFC, not only for fishing but for being a people person, learning how to commutate with people, when to stay out of a fight and when to send a PM asking someone to stop what they are doing.

I'm still trying to invite people every day and that is so easy to do for me. Every person on the boat get an email with a link to their trip that I post about, some post and some don't but it does drive traffic here, new traffic. Heck, my cousin even joined when I did the "DaddyPop" thread, I thought that was cool. Think how powerful we could be if each member got I person to join each month... In 1 year we could take over Google...

I would like to take a second to thank each and every one of you that has ever posted in one of my threads cause with out you all, we would not be here... Now go out and bring 1 new member here for the month of MAY...

Well said Box, over the last 9 months that I have member here I have learned so much. From doing searches and looking at older posts, it is amazing what great info and tips people have posted here. Posting topics and getting answered by professional captains and mates as well as weekend warriors that are more than willing to share information. It is safe to say I have learned more on this site than any other.

Wahoo, with all due respect, & I see where your heart is, but being in the IT field and a consultant to businesses who are looking to increase site traffic, I must tell you that the Alexa rankings are a joke and not indicative of reall traffic since the numbers are easily and often times readily manipulated, many times by the site owners themselves. Not saying that is happening here, but in all reality, there are better traffic ranking sites out there.

I commend you for your passion and all but...how can you possibly compare communities using Alexa rankings? Anyone who knows anything about the internet and internet ranking, knows Alexa is a complete JOKE! Those numbers are so
ridiculously skewed it isn't funny! Not to mention the fact that crafty webmasters make a living out of manipulating those numbers. Yes, Alexa's traffic rankings are very easily manipulated!

One of the things you failed to mention while pointing out the various sites and their Alexa rankings (joke). You never mentioned the fact that Alexa (joke) gathers it's rankings from users who have the Alexa Toolbar installed. If you don't have the toolbar installed, your visits don't count.
The whole Alexa ranking thing is a complete JOKE!

Here is an informative article by a guy named, Loren Barker. The article is titled: Alexa: Worthless & Easy To Manipulate Here is a quote from the article:

The main problem with Alexa is its rankings are based on users who have installed the Alexa toolbar onto their browser. If you do not have the toolbar running, you do not affect the rankings of the sites you visit. The next
big problem with Alexa is it is very easy to cheat the system. Just get a few friends to install the toolbar and have them surf your site everyday. It does not take many people to break into the top 100,000. You can even do it all by yourself by refreshing your site over and over again. Get a dozen friends to do it and you’re break into top 20,000 easily.

Do a Google search on "how to manipulate alexa." You'll find page, after page, after page, on how easy it is to manipulate Alexa rankings.

When it comes to online communities & want to get a feel for a websites traffic, the numbers are right in front of your face; views, replies and daily active topics are the things people in the know look for (i.e potential advertisers).

For example, a lot of guys like, Canyon Runner, Kilsong, and Over Under Adventures post duplicate reports on several sites, often times at the same time or within a few minutes of each other. By comparing the number of views, you can get a good gauge on a communities traffic.

Another thing to look at, most online communities run the same vBulletin software. Click on "Quick Links" in the upper right corner of the messageboard. From there click on "Today's Active Posts." This will give you the number of active topics for a 24hr period. You will need to be logged in to see the links.

This is another easy way to determine a communities
traffic/activity. Sites with a high number of daily active topics are usually those with the most traffic. Makes sense, don't it? To me it makes a lot more sense then using some ridiculous Alexa rankings.

I will give you another example of how big a joke Alexa rankings are. I'm looking at the sites you mentioned; SFC, Tidalfish, Bloody Decks, In The Bite and the Bass Barn. Of the 5, the Bass BARN had the worse Alexa ranking of them
all, coming in at 21,820,947.

Yet when I visited these sites you mentioned, the Bass Barn has more views/replies on duplicate posts, and more daily active topics then all of them. HOw can a site ranked 21,820,947 by Alexa, double, triple and sometimes
quadruple sites ranked, 105,261, 158,031, 135,710, 1,675,985 in these areas? It's because Alexa rankings are a joke!

If you're wondering why people choose to advertise at the bassbarn or any other site named, why don't you ask some of them? The last time I checked they had a long list of supporters, all very easy to contact. I doubt they're going tell you their support has anyting to do with Alexa.
