OC's 1st wahoo of the year....1st place Canyon Kick Off Wahoo

Started out on the 100 line S. Poormans...slow reports all over...trolled out to 200 fathoms and back inside to 75 fathoms...getting sloppy at this point but determined to kill something we ran back across the 100 fathom line around the 941....and bam on the inside port rigger on the black bart...we thought for sure a yft....almost cut him off in the props then got a good look at him and he had the stripes...well Capt. Terry had to change gloves at this point...saw the hoo, stuck him and threw him on the deck. Can't believe he didn't cut that mono leader...raised a white had him smacking a bird...and pulled off a mahi...ran home at 14.5 knots...absolutely get'n the piss knocked out of us. But all smiles at the dock as the wahoo sits atop the leader board in the OC Canyon Kickoff tourney.
Congrats to William Wildbergh of Texas, the rest of the crew....Capt. Terry(Marty you trained us well! Thanks for all your tips!), Capt. JT Timmons

1st Wahoo of the year in OCMD!

Good luck to the rest of the boats...we're heading back out Sunday to hopefully to calmer seas!

Final Results OC Marlin Club Canyon Kickoff

Well the Wahoo held on to 1st place and we got a real nice plaque.
I don't quite understand how winning the meatfish wahoo category didn't pay anything but nonetheless we were very happy.

We fished hard yesterday further south trying too prepare for the upcoming OC Tuna Tourney and found the Bluefins. Caught 2 released one.
Definitely nicer seas. Just couldn't find our over fish. Lots of sandeels marked down there and boomerangs on the sounder.

The crew we took had a good time. They're first time tuna fishing and Capt. Terry and I put them on the meat. I'll let Terry write the play by play but here's a shot of the one anglers tuna right before the release.

MY REPLY

WELL.... IT WAS A FUN TOURNAMENT....

THE CREW THAT WE HAD ON FRIDAY WAS GREAT.....THEY HAD NEVER BEEN OFFSHORE....WILLIAM CAUGHT HIS FIRST WAHOO AND THE FIRST ONE OF THE YEAR IN OC, MD......

CONGRATS TO ALL THE BOATS THAT FISHED AND PLACED IN THE TOURNAMENT AND TO ALL OF THEIR CREW.

NOW I WANT TO THANK THE OC MARLIN CLUB FOR HOSTING THE TOURNAMENT AND I WANT TO THANK CAPT FRANKY AND HIS STAFF FOR ORGANIZING THE WHOLE DEAL......AND WHAT I AM ABOU TO STATE HERE IS NOTHING PERSONAL AND IT HAS NO REFLECTION ON HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE MARLIN CLUB ................................I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING THATS ALL AND MAYBE SOMEONE HERE CAN SIMPLY CLEAR IT UP FOR ME BECAUSE QUITE FRANKLY ............JT AND I WERE BOTH A LITTLE PAST CONFUSED WHEN WE LEFT THE CLUB AFTER THE AWARDS CEREMONY LAST NITE......SO HERE IT GOES OK.

WE LANDED THE FIRST WAHOO IN OC, MD FOR THE YEAR......AND THE ONLY WAHOO IN THE OC MARLIN CLUB CANYON KICKOFF AND THERE WERE FOUR PLACES IN THE WAHOO MEATFISH DIVISION........NOT ONE DIME FOR PRIZE WINNINGS......NOW COME ON FOLKS - WE KILLED A DECENT WAHOO ON JULY3RD OUT OF OC, MD.......A RARE EVENT TO SAY THE LEAST.......

I MEAN WHEN WE CAME IN THERE TO THE SCALES,......PEOPLE WERE LIKE WOW - .........WHERE DID YOU GET THE WAHOO??????

AND SOME MAY SAY,.....WELL THEY WERE JUST LUCKY,....OR WELL THAT'S NOT AS COOL AS RELEASING A WHITE MARLIN,......OR ITS NOT WORTH AS MUCH AS A 43 LB YFT OR A 15 LB MAHI........

WELL, BASICALLY I HAVE TWO THINGS TO SAY TO THAT.........1I WILL TAKE KILLING A WAHOO ANYDAY OVER A GAFFER MAHI .................AND 2......THIS WAHOO MEAT STEEL TO THE DEATH BY WAY OF MONOFILAMENT MY FRIEND.......SOMETHING WAS DONE RIGHT SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINES I WOULD SAY....

SO THE POINT THAT I AM TRYING TO MAKE HERE IS THAT IF RELEASING A WHITE MARLIN IS WORTH $11K AND SOME CHANGE AND YOU DID NOT HAVE TO ENTER A CALCUTTA FOR THAT - THEN,...........SHOULDN'T A WAHOO THAT SWEEPS THE ENTIRE DIVISION BE WORTH SOMETHING?

WE EVEN ASKED CAPT. FRANKY LAST NIGHT BEFORE LEAVING AFTER THE CEREMONY WAS COMPLETE......HOW MANY WAHOO'S USUALLY GET CAUGHT IN THIS TOURNEY......THIS WAS THE SECOND WAHOO IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE DARN TOURNAMENT TO EVER BE WEIGHED IN..........HE EVEN MADE MENTION THAT THE FIRST ONE YEARS AGO THAT WAS BROUGHT IN STIRRED UP A FUSS BECAUSE IT TOOK MONEY AWAY FROM THE TUNA CALCUTTA.....

I MEAN 15 PLUS POUND MAHI'S WERE PAYING OVER $3000.00 LAST NIGHT......AND SOMEWHERE IN THE $48,000.00 PLUS PAY OUT LAST NIGHT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A FEW DIMES FOR THE WAHOO DIVISION.

I BRING THIS UP ONLY FOR THE FUTURE OF THE WAHOO KILLER'S IN THIS TOURNAMENT......I MYSELF THINK THAT THE ALLOCATION OF THE FUNDS SHOULD BE DIVIDED INTO THE FIVE DIVISIONS.......AND THEN IF NO TUNA IS CAUGHT OR NO WAHOO IS CAUGHT,.....THEN REALLOCATE THE MONIES THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE DIVISIONS......BUT IF A BOAT FISHING THE TOURNAMENT WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE MARLIN CLUB BRINGS IN A SPECIES OF FISH THAT HAS A DIVISION,.....THEN TO ME IT IS ONLY RIGHT THAT THAT BOAT BE REWARDED.

AND AGAIN, PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME THE WRONG WAY,......I THOUGHT THE PLAQUE WAS A NICE GESTER.......BUT A LOT OF HARD WORK GOES INTO CHARTER FISHING, OFFSHORE FISHING,.....TOURNAMENT FISHING,.....RIGGING, RE-RIGGING,.....COST OF SUPPLIES,...TACKLE,...BAIT,....FUEL,....INSURANCE, ....SLIP RENT,.....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH......ALL I AM SAYING IS IF THERE IS GOING TO BE A DIVISION AND A BOAT PLACES A FISH IN THAT DIVISION THAT EITHER PLACES OR MAYBE SWEEPS THE ENTIRE DIVISION....................I AM JUST ASKING THE MEMBERS OF SFC HERE BECAUSE LETS FACE IT THIS IS THE FISHING COMMUNITY AND I KNOW THAT MOST OF THE MEMBERS OF THE OC MARLIN CLUB WILL READ THIS...........THIS FOLLOWING QUESTION.....OK.

DOESN'T WHAT I AM STATING HERE MAKE COMPLETE SENSE OR AM I JUST OUT IN LEFT FIELD?

"I WILL TAKE KILLING A WAHOO ANYDAY OVER A GAFFER MAHI"

YOU MAKE PERFECT SENSE BRO....LOUD AND CLEAR...

BUT THE RULES WERE SET FORTH AT THE START-O-RAMA OF THIS EVENT

NO MAHI SHOULD EVER PAY MORE THAN A WAHOO...UNLESS THE MAHI IS OVER 40...THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO SKILL REQUIRED TO CATCH A MAHI TO BEGIN WITH....INCLUDING MYSELF....THEY WILL EAT THEIR MOMMA...DADDY... AND AN OLD SET OF CHEAP FLIP FLOPS AT THE SAME TIME...MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THEM

ANYWAY...YOU CAUGHT THE MUTHER....1ST PLACE WAHOO....THAT AIN'T BAD IN MY BOOK.....I MEAN MY WORLD.

DROPPINBACK,.....TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION......IT WAS NOT BROKE DOWN EXACTLY HOW IT WOULD BE PAID OUT......OF COURSE EACH DIVISION HAS ITS OWN PRIZE LEVEL,......WITH SOME BEING MORE VALUABLE THAN OTHERS......

MY ONLY POINT IS WHY EVEN HAVE A DIVISION IF IT IS NOT GOING TO PAY OUT...THATS ALL.....

THANKS BOX,.....FRANKLY SIR I AGREE WITH YOU 100% MY FRIEND. I WILL TAKE THE HOO ANY DAY.

ANY WAY ITS OVER......MY POINT HERE WAS TO HOPEFULLY BRING A LOOPHOLD TO LIGHT IN ORDER TO HOPEFULLY HELP OUT A CREW DOWN THE ROAD IN THE FUTURE TOURNAMENTS TO COME.........

THANKS TO ALL THAT GIVE THIS THEIR ATTENTION WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANTED TO REPLY.......I THINK I HAVE MADE MY POINT........AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED ITS A DONE DEAL......

THERE WILL BE MORE FISHING TO COME VERY SOON!!!!!
