Oh, i thought it was usually broken down before hand percentage wise of how much cash went to each species of fish... before the first day of fishing... WAS THIS NOT THE CASE? If not... that does suck... If it was... then... no big deal...

IN CAPS, NOT BECAUSE ITS W2MW, BECAUSE I AM MAD!!!
FIRST OFF, CONGRATS ON WINNING THE WAHOO DIVISION OF THE TOURNEY.
NOW FOR MY RANT- THE CANYON KICKOFF IS A FREE TOURNAMENT THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE- IT IS FREE TO MARLIN CLUB BOAT MEMBERS- THERE IS FREE WINE AND BEER AND APPETIZERS AT THE SIGN UP. THERE IS NO GUARANTEED PRIZE MONEY- THERE ARE TROPHIES (PAID FOR BY THE MARLIN CLUB) OF THE 47,850 DOLLARS GIVEN AWAY AT THE TOURNAMENT- EVERY RED CENT OF IT WAS PAID IN BY THE PEOPLE WHO CHOSE TO GET IN THE ADDED ENTRY LEVELS. THIS IS SPELLED OUT PLAINLY IN THE RULES, AND SHAME ON ANYONE THAT ENTERS A TOURNEY WITHOUT READING THE RULES. THE COMMENT I MADE ABOUT A WAHOO TAKING MONEY AWAY FROM THE TUNA DIVISION A FEW YEARS AGO- GUESS WHAT- THE PEOPLE WHO CAUGHT THAT WAHOO CAME OFF WITH SOME COIN AND GOT IN THE ADDED ENTRY LEVELS. I AM SORRY, BUT THIS CHAFES MY ASS- ALOT OF PEOPLE DONATE ALOT OF TIME TO MAKE THE OC MARLIN CLUB WHAT IT IS- AND DON'T ASK FOR ONE DAMN THING IN RETURN. YOU FISH IN A FREE TOURNEY- GET SOME FREE FOOD AND DRINK AND GRIPE BECAUSE YOU DID NOT GET ANY MONEY BECAUSE YOU CHOSE NOT TO ENTER ADDED ENTRY LEVELS????? SHAME ON YOU. I have had a minute to let my blood go from boil to simmer- and i want to make sure a few things are clear- and to make sure there was not a mix up.
Tunavision (JT and terry) were you in any of the added entry levels? The records I have show that you were not- if you were, you are in fact due some money because the wahoo gets a share of the meatfish calcuttas- and if you were in the added entry levels- I apologize on behalf of the club and will make it right. If you were not in any added entry levelss then you have no gripe. There is no loophole. The Playmate walked with over 11k for the billfish because they put up 2k in added entry. Every tuna and dolphin that walked with money put up money. I do not do the book keeping for the tourneys, the club's office staff does, and if you did in fact pay added entry levels- and it was somehow overlooked, you are owed something. If not, I stand by my original post. |

Franky and the entire board, staff and Ladies Auxliaruy thanks again for a great tournament. The Canyon Kickoff is always one of the best attended club tournaments and always one of the funnest tourneys of the year. Unfortunetly there was no plaque for last place this year because we surely would have meritted a skunk trophy.
No need to elaborate on your explaination of the rules. The CKO has had this format for as long as I have been fishing it. I'll probably see ya this afternoon after your survey. Jake and I are meeting for some lunch. |

No we weren't in any added entry levels. We did have fun and glad to have won the Wahoo 1st place plaque.
I read the rules before hand and nowhere did it explain that any entry monies (assuming some non-members paid to play) were to be dispersed for guaranteed prizes. It did say that 10% of any added entry levels were to be retained by the club for administrative and the like. I guess the part about no guaranteed money was the unclear part. Thanks for clearing things up for us Franky. Now we know. Didn't mean to upset any members and especially those who worked the tourney. The food was outstanding and we actually got lucky and bought the last 2 banquet tickets $40/each and had a good time, not to mention sat next to the owners of the Playmate(let me tell you some playmates ate at our table and the eye candy was as good as the filet crabcake dinner.)I'm a member and have been for 6 years and have fished this tourney at least 3 of the 6. Guess there was some confusion about the payout that's all.

Squiddy Bill- thankyou for fishing the event again, and letting someone else get your share of the money this year
![]() ![]() JT- hope it is all clear now, and in the future, if you have any questions about payouts, or anything tournament related for that matter, speak up at the captains meeting. lord knows I had to hear enough nonsense from the crews of the Agitator and the Billfisher ![]() Hope to see you all at the Tuna Tourney (where I don't have to help run stuff behind the scenes ) and of course the OCMC Kids Classic next week- Pino are you running the brown bag of skittles again???

CLEAR
OK.........FIRST AND FOREMOST AGAIN, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE OC MARLIN CLUB AND ALL OF IT'S STAFF INCUDING YOU CAPT. FRANK FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK THAT GOES IN TO MAKING THIS AND ALL OF THE OTHER TOURNAMENTS HAPPEN EACH AND EVERY YEAR.
WITH THAT BEING SAID.....CAPT. FRANKY THANKS FOR CLEARING IT UP FOR US........I HAVE TO ADMIT IT WAS A BIT FOGGY ON WHETHER OR NOT WE WERE TO BE AWARDED ANY MONIES FOR FINISHING FIRST AND JUST ENTERING THE TOURNAMENT.........WE WERE BASICALLY CONFUSED WHEN WE LEFT THERE AND I THOUGHT WHY NOT PUT IT OUT THERE.......I AM SURE THAT SOME ONE WOULD CLEAR IT UP FOR US......... MY POINT WAS NOT TO RAGE WAR WITH YOU OR THE OC MARLIN CLUB..........OR TO SAY THAT ALL OF THE ENTRANT MONEY WAS OR WAS NOT AWARDED....... MY POINT WAS SIMPLY TO STATE THAT IF YOU ARE A MARLIN CLUB MEMBER YOU CAN FISH THE TOURNAMENT FOR FREE AND IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER,.......WELL THEN ITS AN ENTRY FEE OF WHAT EVER IT WAS I BELIEVE $450,.....PLUS WHAT EVER CALCUTAS YOU WANT TO ENTER.......BASICALLY WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY WAS WHETHER YOU ENTER A CALCUTTA OR TWO OR ALL OR NONE......I JUST THOUGHT THERE WAS A BASIC FEE PAID OUT TO EACH PLACE AS THERE IS AFTER GOING INTO THE GENERAL ENTRANCE FEE IN THE WMO OR THE TUNA TOURNAMENT.....AND WITH CALCUTTA MONEY OF COURSE THERE WOULD BE MORE.......THAT'S ALL..... HEAK IF MY WIFE WASN'T LAID OFF, IF MY BUSINESS WAS BOOMING AND JT'S BUSINESS WAS HOTTER I AM SURE THAT MAYBE WE COULD HAVE ENTERED A CALCUTTA OR TWO..........BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS....... ANYWAY THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN FOR ALL THE HARD WORK YOU PUT INTO THE TOURNAMENT........AND THANKS FOR CLEARING THIS ALL UP FOR US.

Glad we got it cleared up, and again- congrats on catching the first wahoo of the year.
The first time I won the CKO (3 White marlin releases in 1994) i was not in any calcuttas- the Natural with capt. Bob Gowar and Capt. Scott Walker came in 2nd with 2. I got a nice fancy pickle dish- Scott and Growler got a nice fat check for 10 G's or so- thats the breaks- BUt Scott did buy me a drink or 2 that night at least!!!
